For those who didn't know, this is a cover of a 1926 Georges Boulanger song. Georges Boulanger was a violinist and composed this piece. It was originally titled "Avant De Mourir" which translates to "Before Dying". In 1939, lyrics were added to it and a first vocal version was recorded by the Ink Spots which reached the number three spot that year. The song would be covered many, many times, but it would be the 1956 version by the Platters that would go on to become a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, R&B Airplay charts and R&B Jukebox charts. This is the version Mariah's version is, for the most part, based on.

I love the 50s vibe and the vocals, especially the climax and vibrato at the end. Mariah deserves all of her flowers now that she is here with us. She deserves more respect. She is so unbelievably talented. (And I now know this is a cover) however, she made this song her own.
