It’s only now that I watch it again that I realize that Isabella had been expecting rejection for acting unlike her perfect self. At 2:25, she looks so down. But when someone accepts her struggles and feels happy for Isabella embracing her true nature (as not the dainty flowery girl her grandmother wanted of her), she becomes more confident. That’s truly when Mirabel and Isabella stand up and start to sing with each other, and notice how Isabella sings loudly and joyously. It’s so different from how she sang in the earlier song—Don’t Talk About Bruno. She had that soft, pizzicato, elegant pizzicato style. Compared to this song, she sounded more confined and restrained there. Now she’s so open, raising her voice as she ran around the rooftop in happiness. She got all that hope from Mirabel’s acceptance.
Like man, I really felt for her in this song.
