I play Swain mid from time-to-time, which I know isn't as good as it used to be, but that's the only time I take Malignance on him. Having the lowered ult CD is an absolute must for mid because you're constantly getting ganked, even more so than playing him bot. Plus you end up at objectives a lot more as mid, so you NEED your ult for those fights. It's definitely not as good as Liandry's though.
