This show handled the Kim and Knives chemistry a lot better than the comic! In the comic, they were both drunk and made out with one another (counter-intuitive to her making fun of Scott for dating Knives plus drinking age is 18 in canada, consent was legal except for drunk part). But here, the chemistry is conveyed through music. Whether or not you see these sparks as them liking each other or just such an awesome jam session that sparks had to fly, is up to you. Either way, chemistry was done a lot better here!

Kim: “a good outlet for my emotion. Rage mostly.”
Proceeds to cry while playing, because she actually cares about Scott and thinks he’s dead. Incredible deflection on her part, and incredibly vivid detail in the storytelling. The same with her suddenly loose body language when she learns he’s alive.

As a learning bassist, I relate way too much to this. It’s actually not that hard to improvise something simple that still works at the same time, it doesn’t have to be too complex, especially if you’re starting. When I’m not learning a specific song, I just like to do random stuff and just have fun.

I read on TvTropes that this scene may have had uhhhh.... problematic implications considering that the few times a heart like this showed up in romantic moments. But, I like the idea that this heart shows up when a real bond is forming between two people. Romantic, platonic, who cares? Kim and Knives are bonding. And it's so real. It's wonderful, so wonderful that I teared up watching this. I wish there was an extended version of this, or this was made into a real song.
