Sponges (Porifera) of the deep sea play a vital role in supporting communities of life. With over 8,500 sponge species known to science, and colonising vast areas of the sea floor from the shallow intertidal zone to the continental slope and the abyssal plain of the deep, their success is extraordinary and their importance unparalleled. They are ecosystem engineers. By building reefs and cycling nutrients, they form the foundation of many communities, and have been doing so for over 600 million years. This is the wonderful world of sponges.

I really prefer the longer videos. In the middle of the night I sometimes use your soothing voice and cadence to slow my brain down so I can get back to sleep. I came to the channel to find one of the longer videos and it turns out you posted a 15 minute one 15 minutes ago. Jackpot! I find nature videos are the best way to get me to focus on something that isn't about what I have to do at work tomorrow etc. I absolutely love nature and I absolutely love your videos. You also do background music better than anyone. It doesn't have dramatic volume changes and it's loud and noticeable without drowning out the narration.

Glass sponges are, in my opinion, some of the most unexpectedly beautiful creatures in the ocean. Their relationship with small crustaceans is absolutely fascinating to me.

You forgot to mention the sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea. Anyway, great video as always. Yours is a great channel to watch just before I go to bed since your videos are usually uploaded near midnight here.

I can’t stress enough how amazing your videos are. Even after a long day of work, or whatever else I’m dealing with in the mess of life, your uploads always put me in a good mood. The music and narration is just so soothing, while I simultaneously get to learn so much about the intricacies of the deep sea. Thank you!

Thank you for making the little marine biologist inside me very happy. I love learning as much as I could about the ocean, and you make it so absorb-able.

sponges really blur the line between animal, fungus, and plant. it's so fascinating to see how these basic mechanisms of nutrient acquisition first started to develop and diverge! I wonder, has lichen-sponge symbiosis ever been observed? would a triple symbiont be theoretically possible?

There's so much to be told about sponges, but you got the basics and the main differences from shallow and deep sea sponges. Amazing production! you have no idea how much inspiring it was after reading hundreds of papers just on this topic as part of my research, lol.

I'm a biologist and honestly, your videos are better than 80% of the classes I attended. I didn't understood how can a teacher make a subject so wonderful be boring. But now I understand that what you do in your vídeos is not a easy job. It takes dedication to do something so beautiful, peaceful, engaging and interesting. The best teachers I've had are the ones that tell a story, It didn't matter if it was about cells or sharks, we wanted to know more. Your scrip tell a full story and always make me want to learn more and more. Thank you.

You make everything sound so interesting, and in both an amazing and entertaining way. I don't have any words to truly match how good it is. Please keep up the work. It's lovely.

Pretty sure going to sleep watching your videos is the reason I woke up absolutely obsessed with fish one morning. Now I have a 13 gallon tank and it’s like 90% your fault. Fantastic as always, love the longer videos.

Another magnificent video! I love seeing all the amazing species of the deep ocean and learning how they interact and support their various ecosystems. You always find the most spectacular footage of these beautiful creatures, then combine it with your wonderful narration and perfect music. Thank you!

I casually stumbled across this channel a few months ago, and have found myself continually coming back for more. This is really fantastic content. Thank you for bringing this amazing world to light in such a thoughtful way!

I think that you should edit together some of your videos to make 1h + documentaries of them. I only discovered your channel last night but its the perfect thing to fall asleep to even when I've already seen the video. Your narration voice is incredibly soothing and relaxing, if i could put on an hours worth of your content i would probably fall asleep to it every night, but i don't wanna leave the auto play feature on because the algorithm is going to eventually put me onto something with shouting and wake me up scared
