Tesseract reaches that perfect balance of mindblowing rhythms that groove flawlessly. I guess it can't possibly be easy. Way too many bands try so hard with complex rhythms that they just end up sound messy. Tesseract songs just feel SO GOOD.

It amazes me bands like Tesseract and Meshuggah (and many others I'm sure) can remember their songs live (even with in-ear cues). They're so complex. A 4-bar repeating verse-chorus is about my level :) Jay is awesome.

Something absolutely incredible about Jays playing is the subtlety he brings like the ghost notes on the snare. A lot of metal drummers are like athletes and human drum machines and what they do is incredibly impressive but also very direct. Jay has a lot of texture to the way he plays.

I absolutely love when I see these crazy players who are super successful who aren’t always dropping so many rudiment names or these crazy warm ups, etc. this dude feels just like “one of us” regular guys

I have been learning from Jay for the last few years now and I can without a doubt say that he has become my greatest insipiration as a drummer. His style is right there in the realm of style I always wanted myself, and Jay has blessed the drumming world by sharing his knowledge in such an accessible way that people can learn some awesome philosophies and skills that help take our ability to speak on the drums to the next level. Jay is a great person, and incredible mentor. Highly underrated đŸ˜©

22:20 love the alternating headbanging between Amos and Acle lol. Jay is on an insane level of rhythmic and groove interpretation. I'm primarily a guitarist, but I learned one Tesseract on drums and it took so long to figure out his fills and accents, but he does that stuff so comfortably on many songs. Sometimes a pattern feels like it's not gonna make sense, but it lines up in the end. That's also the benefit of using computers to write some of this stuff, as Jay mentioned.

I can't say it loud enough: THANK YOU DRUMEO, for videos in THAT quality to help us drummers and bring so much different informations of different drummers in different styles. This is such a helpful support and never ending inspiration. Thank you again and again!

I saw Tesseract on the Sonder tour, and they were and still are BY FAR the best-sounding band I've ever seen live. It's rare that a live situation sounds better than the clinical perfection of a studio cut, but every note was CRUSHING. They really have it dialed; if you ever have a chance to see them live, go get your mind blown.

Thank you for doing this video. I have a signed Tesseract drum skin on my wall in my office. This band has been part of my life since the moment I heard the Concealing Fate EP. Post Fellsilent. Amazing interview and explanations. Thank you Drumeo!

I caught one of his drum sticks at the dallas show recently, my first drum stick ever! Was seriously the coolest way to end such an epic show. Loved every minute of my first tesseract show 😁

Jay has been one of my favorite drummers since I first heard Concealing Fate on YouTube - I've been watching for him to show up here. The ways he holds down the underlying pulse amidst the conversation of everything else and the openness of his drumming have been amazing insights for my own practicing (not to mention the left foot groove and how key it is to his playing).

It was an absolute treat to meet Jay on this past tour. I've been following him for some time and one of my most inspirational drummers.
