When the Bald Eagle population started to decline in the mid-20th century, scientists began to ask why. Population ecology, the study of organisms of the same species, played a big role in answering that question. In this episode of Crash Course Biology, we’ll take a look at the methods population ecologists use to study a population and the types of data they collect. We’ll also find out how scientists helped bring the Bald Eagle back from the brink.

Chapters:
Introduction to Population Ecology 00:00
Density 2:51
Dispersion 6:02
Demographics 7:13
Population Growth 8:22
Review & Credits 11:26

Y’all make an entire 13 minute and 42 second video on saving bald eagles but not a thing about bald humans like myself. The hypocrisy is glaring!!

It's a shame more species don't have the charisma or political clout of the Bald Eagle.

And how much impact (and in which direction) did making Craig Benzine/WheezyWaiter (host of Crash Course - US Government and Politics) stop punching eagles have? 😁

At 5:43 are you serious about using a marker to tag butterflies? I've never heard of that before. Seeing the 88 on the shown butterfly wing I had a memory of a butterfly whose wings are marked that way so googled it but it's definitely a different butterfly than the one shown. So, it makes me think this is truly a way to tag butterflies?

In some places eagles are getting back to being the pests they used to be.

The consequences for screwing around with our ecology is still not enough. It should either be like, 20+ years in jail, or life ruining amounts of fines if you screw with endangered ecosystems and organisms. Because remember, if the only punishment is a fine, it's just telling you how rich you have to be for a crime to be legal. Also it should not take us 25+ years to remove dangerous chemicals every goddamn time

I'm not sure we can take credit for "saving the bald eagle" when in fact we are the ones that pushed it to the brink in the first place...
