Time square is horrible. In 2019 walking through there I had two guys talking about how they were trying to get into the music industry with their new rap music, so I played along because honestly why would they need to approach some random person on the street to do that. I said I worked for a music label in Europe. They followed me two blocks, insisting I should take a CD for free, so I agreed... And then they asked for a donation, to which I said no, so they asked me for the CD back and then headed back towards time square hurling loud insults at me down the street. Amusing :)

having grown up in a small town, the first encounters with scammers in foreign big cities were cutting really deep into my faith into humanity. the godless, ugly, hateful glare they give you when you refuse to pay for something THEY forced upon you is something that still shocks me every other time. as if they were really dependent on that money to eat and live, that shit just breaks my heart.

😂 I remember the 'friendly NYC rapper' scam. I was a naive young girl in 2011 and got sucked into a guy's story about his dream to get his music out into the world, etcetc. I paid him $20 for the disc, took it all the way home to Northern Ireland, loaded it up on the computer, and yeah it was blank. I couldn't believe then that someone would lie to my face like that, but it was a lesson learned.

Thanks for the video. Hope it gets shared, especially by family/friends of people headed to NYC. No eye contact. Be aware of your surroundings. Don't accept "freebies". Wear sunglasses; it keeps scammers from knowing if they have made eye contact.

Note: that scam almost exclusive to Time Square (NYC), LA Sidewalks, and Las Vegas. Been an American all my life and I have never seen this anywhere other than Time Square and Las Vegas, or LA Sidewalks. It’s extremely specific to those areas. I am not aware of anywhere in Florida (where I live) there are any character scams. Here in FL we just have the regular Disney experience to drain your entire life savings…..lol😅

Karl, you are 90% correct on these scams. Where you are wrong: 1) You won’t see this in Virginia or Tennessee. This is a NYC, Vegas, and Hollywood thing. 2) The comedy club tickets are usually legit. 3) The drink minimum is usually 2–I have never seen a 4 drink minimum.
