I am a Japanese girl who now lives in Scotland.
I am engaged to a girl who originally comes from the Isle of Skye (well the Isle of Søay just off the Skye coastline).
My girlfriend was all ready to hate this version as this song is close to the heart of most Skye islanders, but she absolutely adores it!
We are having our Covid-delayed wedding on the Isle of Skye hopefully next year and we must use this as part of the celebration!

Firstly, this is absolutely beautiful. Secondly, I love how you took the time to explain the history behind this song and why there are different versions of it and why you made your own version. It was really interesting! (also thank you for making a lyric video because I could not decide whether it was wondered or wandered lol)

The idea that the folk music genre is so organic and changeable is both exciting and tragic to me. This means there are reams and reams of unique renditions and variations that are lost forever. OTOH, much of what is created in the tech age is now possible to record for posterity. The artists of today can listen and learn indefinitely.
EDIT: BTW, screw the trolls, bunch of pissants. Do what you like, Malinda!

"The thing about folk music is it's not static" - this video made a folk nerd even happier than I expected. That statement is important and so easy to forget.
