Apple seems to want to distance itself from the metaverse marketing speak Facebook/Meta has been using. No doubt in my mind that when they release the consumer model of this paradigm they will also launch an apple certified controller type program. Having Unity on board with supporting this platform should also help a lot with portability of current existing hand tracked VR experiences.

im sorry but watching this video was kind of hard for me to really finish. its like im watching this old man complain about new technology. And boy were you complaining. Its like trying to justify the dial up internet over wifi lol. Funny how you cant see the future in this especially that apple is working with unity as their primary developer for the applications and games for this hardware.

"You navigate with your eyes"
I have one eye that drifts uncontrollably. Unless I can cancel the tracking for one eye, I can only imagine how this might wreak havoc with eye tracking.
"...you're not isolated from other people."
Not isolated from them, no. You just think so little of them that you won't even bother to take off your VR headset to have a conversation.

I don't personally like this VR headset but some things are cool but other is depressing but I think this VR headset will help other VR manufacturers innovate and push themselves to create even better VR headset for games. I do like the idea of playing a video game and then the whole room becoming the environment, that's kind of cool. There was a idea for that like 10 years ago for a light projector that goes 360 degree and projects the game around your room but it was just an concept.
What I really want is glasses that does the same thing (or contact lens but we probably won't live long enough to see that day) for real-world purposes like GPS maps, live captioning for hard of hearing, movies, AR, etc.

The reason that the "see through" panel on the front feels creepy is because of uncanny valley. What you're looking at is a 3d scanned model of yourself which you setup on the headset and then the tracking on your eyes updates the models features. Proper black mirror stuff.
EDIT:
I guess you could just plug the headset into the wall if you're sitting in one place for hours watching a film/tv series too... But guess you'd mostly be stuffed on flights, unless they have plug points...

The problem with facetime is they're using AI to recreate your face and projecting that to the people you call. So your family and friends aren't really seeing you, they're seeing an avatar, which really removes some of the personal interactions.
I think it's a really nice device, very clever tech, but I don't feel like I am the target market. I'm not going to record my child's birthday parties with this thing, that's creepy as heck. I am not going to isolate myself in my living room while my family just see me with a mask.
Right now this is a device for single professionals who want to minimise their spaces, the headset offers screens to work from which don't have to clutter your living or working space.
The most cynical part of me sees it as nothing more than a device targeted squarely at apple's most loyal consumers who would lay down 3.5k to beta test it.

It's essentially Google glasses, but bigger and with VR capabilities. I don't think they intend to compete with VR gaming headsets (the fact that they showed a normal game in an AR window, not a VR game), instead bringing AR and VR headsets together. Of course it's for the metaverse, but since it's Apple they can't use the actual word...because they always need to be different and unique.

I guess being a game developer and kind a tech guy, you do not have any clue about the extend this thing could grow⊠developers and apple itself⊠ânot moving my handsâ⊠but then what moving controls?? âI would want my family in my roomâ⊠well get a Vision to everyone and I bet you will be able to through an apple special application.
This changes the whole reality and its the first product, what will apple bring in the future? Thats the point. Agree with some creepy stuff but well, people get used to⊠now we all look at our phones even having dinner⊠so people will evolve in thinking in how things work.

To answer your question, âWhoâs doing this? Who is sitting on a couch looking at their apps?â You, of course, when you said youâre a developer.
Finally, everything you questioned has been answered on the Apple website (the battery pack has a USB port for external power when needed), and with Apple fully embracing gaming on the Mac with their silicon M chips, Triple A gaming is coming (Hideo Kojima even made an appeal for game developers at WWDC23). The Vision Pro has the M2 chip, and a brand new R chip will only enhance gaming control (a fan blows the hot air out on top of the headset). Those with hands-on experience with the Vision Pro unamiously praised the hand and eye control integration. The headset has spatial speakers on the headband and can connect Bluetooth to wireless Airpods/headphones.

4:15 You clearly havenât done your research on Apple Silicon. It stays extremely cool, there is a fan but it will never spin fast enough to be noisy. The M2 is capable of running games like No Mans Sky.
In fact a lot of this video feels like you donât really understand what is going on.

Hey Thomas, totally aggreed of some of your points there. Me too have the same concerns about the real apperience of the product. I ask my self, is it an overall new experience of how to use and work with the future-like apps, or is it the real entertainment on your head... and if you see the price, you can take every console out there, with all of thier gadgets + subscribe on all online stores and have games for free, for years to come, will Apple VR replace them all? On the top everything, if you have new-gen family at home, at least you'll need 3 of the Apple VRs, a small fortune... but maybe is just like you said, maybe this is only their entrance on the market, we'll see how it's gonna develop it's future. Nice review by the way đ

This isnât a great mystery. This is a bridge device. They need to get a device out to establish an eco system. I think the end goal is the Apple Glasses in a few years, which is why they arenât focusing on VR. Imagine the AR capabilities but with several friends with Apple Glasses. You can be in a room and share a virtual theater experience, or have a Group FaceTime call with other friends, or play an AR game in the same space as other friends (and remote friends). In addition to the regular phone activities when you are out and about. If you think of it this way, it will be pretty amazing. And almost all the demos they showcased you can easily imagine working with Apple Glasses. Vision Pro is not the end goal.
I donât think itâs for a âmeta verse.â The âmeta verseâ is your existing physical space. So yes, itâs a social tool. This is why Apple keeps emphasizing the social aspects. Also marketing wise itâs brilliant. This will be the new iMessage blue bubble. To have these shared experiences with your friends in the same physical space, you will all have to have Apple products
