It's been my dream for a long time to build a potentially open source custom mouse with cross-platform smooth scrolling (among many other features), and it's so stupidly frustrating that the roadblock for this is not hardware or software, but integration and red tape. It's stopped me from even starting on any serious designs or prototypes because I feel like there's no point if it won't be able to interact with anything. Apple is of course the worst offender, but Windows is not far behind in this case.
Also that ending has me dead 😂
