Back in the late 70s when I was a kid, I first head "The Girl from Ipanema" on the radio, it was my first exposure to Jobim's music although I didn't know it at the time. Then a few years later there was this well known Japanese Jazz Harpist who recorded a version of "Wave" named Tadao Hayashi and it also got a lot of airplay on the radio and I think my mom even took me to attend one of his concerts when I was young. Soon, local radio stations began using Jobim's music for their station ID and ads. Songs like Aguas Del Marco, Brazil, Agua de Beber, Desafinado, Corcovado and Insensatez. Jobim's music subconsciously became part of my childhood without me knowing it. It was only a decade later in the latter part of the 90s when as part of my desire to expand my music knowledge by exploring more Jazz artists that I bought an Antonio Carlos Jobim Jazz Master CD and found out to my surprise that I was already familiar with his works. This song "Wave" was the most familiar to me, I could remember every note even in my sleep and I'm no music virtuoso, I took piano lessons as a kid, but wasn't really serious about it so I still can't read notes. But I can probably reproduce every note of this song on a piano's keys minus the cords just by ear. It's that embedded in my subconscious.
