I never get over how well done this scene is. The sheer desperation for his friend and anger mixed with all his other emotions lead to rage in Charlie. You never truly experience rage until there is a gap in your memory when your body acts on its own and you wake up horrified of yourself and how you can't remember what you did.

1:47 This movie captured this perfectly if your the quiet kid and you beat someone up you get some crazy looks from your classmates, you get treated WAY differently from that point on.

The other part of this scene that gets me is when Brad says thanks to Charlie for standing up for Patrick and stopping the bullies. The way that you can tell Brad feels nothing but shameful for what he allowed to happen, you can tell he truly hates himself for allowing the guy he loves to be hurt like that, and hateful for the way he didn't have the courage to be himself in the moment. But I also love that Charlie doesn't berate or get angry with Brad, he just says accepts his thanks and gives him a reassuring look and a kind smile. Says a lot about Charlie's accepting and kind nature, he truly is an 'observer'.

2:14 He wasn't trying to be cool but the fact that he meant that threat as a promise makes it cool

I don't think some people who have commented quite get it.
Charlie just walked right in and floored all of them.
He saw his friend being assaulted and blacked out.
No yelling. No posturing. He wasn't frantic or scrambling.
Just pure brutal aggression.
Ending with the threat to blind them was just the icing on the cake.
Nobody makes a threat like that unless they mean it.

What us scarier is that at the beginning of the film Charlie sees his sister get slapped by her boyfriend. Charlie barges in breathing heavily and his sister has to quickly stop him and push him out of the room. This pain and hatred inside Charlie is obviously so strong he feels he needs to protect others as he could not protect himself.
