Our semi-domestic birds kept this instinct from their ancestors. They remove the egg shells from the nest after the youngsters hatched so they have more space. The instinct is to take the egg shells far away from the nest so that they don't show the location of the nest to possible predators. This male has only half of the instinct, it takes the egg shells away but drops them close to the nest. Other pigeons take them more far away, some birds even take them outside the loft when it is open.
