you’re sitting in the library of an old house, packed with old musty books. It’s raining outside and you feel quite cozy with your book, blanket, a scone and a cup of tea, sitting by a fireplace in a comfy antique chair. You feel at home here. You feel for the first time that everything might, just might be alright in the end.

She watched with thoughtful eyes as the boy made his way through the teetering stacks, ring-adorned fingers brushing along the spines of the weathered books. This was his first time in the bookstore, she could easily tell. It wasn’t only the fact that she practically lived in the old bookshop and had never seen him before (she would have remembered a boy like this) but also by the way his fingers lingered on the books, and the way his eyes lit up in a delight found only in someone discovering the rarest kind of joy for the very first time. His appearance was unkempt—white sneakers dusted with dirt, a black sweatshirt hood ruffling the dark hair falling into his eyes. He was no perfect by no means (except maybe perfect for her) but then no one walked into the old bookshop looking perfect. Despite his disheveled appearance, the girl found she couldn’t stop her eyes from straying from the novel in her lap back to him, again and again. Never before had she felt herself become so captured by another person, so unable to turn away. As the boy moved towards the front of the store, she turned her eyes quickly back to her book (but she wasn’t really reading the words) her cheeks burning. She folded herself into her sweater, long sleeves enveloping the fingers that tugged on stray threads nervously. Because the boy was approaching, steaming cup of tea in one hand and an old book clutched in the other. She kept her eyes glued to the pages in front of her (even though she wanted to see what color his eyes were) and tensed as his footsteps approached next to her. And then her eyes rose from the book as he spoke (oh and it was the most beautiful voice she had ever heard) “Do you mind if I join you?” He smiled. (and she smiled back)

pov: You haven't been here in years and never expected to come back to your sleepy little hometown. As you wander the streets, rain starts to softly hit the ground around you, nestling into your hair and seeping into your skin. You make a run for it, pulling open the door to the first store you see, only to stop in the entrance as you realize you've walked into a bookstore. Soft music plays in the background as you turned in a small circle, looking around as a small smile came onto your face. You didn't realize how much you missed this place. The air smells like coffee and old books and you take it all in before stepping into one of the aisles to find a book to read. You've been traveling for so long. What harm would it do to sit for a moment and just read in your favorite spot? You sit down near the entrance, snuggling down into a soft chair, smiling as you crack open a book.

remember the so soothing smell of old dusty books, the comforting way your favourite cup looks, the melody that every raindrop continues to play, and note by note you just float away, letting loose

My college entrance exams are near. While my house is usually so chaotic that it's kinda hard to study sometimes. And the fact that i love the sound of rain and taste of coffee so much makes this the perfect playlist for me rn. Thank you :).

POV Since you were little you loved everything about books. How the smell of book differs depending on what they have seen. How the pages crinkle softly whispering in your ears. How you can find a new world in every page. And even though you aren’t a child anymore, when you come back home after an exhausting day you flip those magical pages open. Your eyes are tired and after some time you let them softly close. Your roommate walks in, turning the desk lamp of. As much as she would like to complain about the light bill, she knows this desk is your special place. She covers you with a blanket, so you don’t get a cold. And everything she can think about is how excited you will be to tell her about everything you have read.

"Camila, how did the books get wet again?" Jamie's a good librarian but she's just a bit too inquisitive sometimes. I mean, why does she need to know how my books got wet? "Well you know, I was running home from the park and then the book kind of turned into my umbrella. And then my brother spilled coffee on it, and-" Jamie just nods and I stop. She understands. Autumn makes people more understanding, kinder. The leaves and rain that always fall around us are the perfect reminder that nothing lasts forever, nothing is permanent. Us included. It reminds us that we only live once so we should live well, enjoy the little things, be understanding and be kind. Soon the Spring will come and the kindness will fade but for now, it's abundant. I smile back at Jamie, faintly, but it's enough, her eyes say enough. The next couple minutes are a blur of Jamie and I going through our weekly book exchange ritual. It may not follow the libraries' rules but if I've learned anything from the books in this place it's that rules are meant to be broken. Jamie passes me books as I gently place them into the tote bag, that's all I have left of Julian, that's Jamie's brother. I miss him but that's something to think about another day. Fall is for appreciating the little details and for loving the world. Not basting in your sadness. I don't remember when Jamie and I decided that this book exchange would be a silent thing but I like it. Chopin wafts through the air around us, creating a sanctuary within the chaotic, gross teenager filled, public library. Our 6 minutes of Chopin and silent book swaps are the perfect time for a quick weekly reflection. But soon enough it's over and I'm back outside, bounding through the red and orange leaves that may have just been the happy little leaves that inspired Bob Ross. The truth is, the rain isn't what got my book wet, and my brother has never even tried coffee. He finds the smell repulsive. I find him repulsive. The truth is that I dropped the book in the bathtub, like all my other books. On purpose. I know, I know, I've heard it all before. "Camila, are you crazy?" "What has gotten into you?" But as strange as this little ritual of mine is, I love it. Because the book as soft at first, but over a day or so it becomes crisp and tough. I could go on some sappy tangent about how it reminds me that I can get stronger but that's honestly not why I love it. I love it because when the book dries it has waves in it like the ocean, and there's a perfectly satisfying crinkling sound from moving the waves each time you turn the page. A book, to me, is more than just a collection of words. It has its own presence, and the bath water helps make my books my own. It helps bring them closer to me, and most simply and importantly, it makes me smile. As soon as im home I run up to the bathroom. This is not about to get gross I promise, in fact it's just gonna keep getting better. I left three books to dry last night and there they are. Waves and all. I practically twirl back downstairs to the kitchen with the new book, the crispness just like the leaves outside makes the Autumn feel like it could last forever. With my nose buried deep into the romances and adventures of the book, I go through the motions I go through each week when I get home from the library. Boiling the water, putting in the tea bag, and letting the tea seep while I go get the new books wet. And when I come back down, the book I just started and the sweet, steaming, peppermint tea are just waiting for me. Inviting me to have the best, the coziest afternoon of my life.

POV You look out your window at the small town you reside in, noticing the few people out in the misty streets hustling to their various destinations quickly. You, however, were lucky enough to be home when the rain hit, and was currently sitting in your library window seat, perfectly warm amongst the plush pillows, a thick knitted wool blanket, and an equally thick sweater. A hot cup of peach tea was in your right hand, and in the other you were holding your favorite book. Its pages were worn from rereads and the cover was cracked and bent, but you still loved what it contained. The scent of paper, wood and a slight smokey scent from the candles you lit filled the room, and you took in a sigh of contentment. The late November weather may have ruined your plans today, but you were just as happy to be at home amongst your books and plants, daydreaming about what that book contained.
