Korean is a phonetic language, Japanese may be an ideographic language when using Chinese characters, but it is completely phonetic when using katakana and Hiragana, and Chinese is an ideographic language. When using Chinese characters to form words, in addition to the meaning of the word as a whole, each Chinese character also has its own independent meaning. For example, "天赋" as a whole means talent. If you take this word apart, "天" means sky, heaven and supreme, "赋" means giving. Because of this characteristic of Chinese, when translating foreign words, Chinese people usually do not translate them exactly according to the original pronunciation, because the words translated in that way are regarded as too common and illiterate in the Chinese context, unable to attract people's attention. There are usually two ways to translate foreign words into Chinese. One is to give it a new Chinese word, which is completely different from its original pronunciation, but abides by the characteristics of the object it refers to. For example, "冰箱" is pronounced as "Bing Xiang", which means "refrigerator", and "冰" means "ice, cold. "箱" means box, cuboid device for storing things. Another way is to use a word with similar pronunciation but not complete onomatopoeia and with good meaning at the same time. For example, Benz car, the Chinese translation is "奔驰", pronunciation Ben Chi, is similar to Benz. "奔驰" means car and horse run fast. Of course, there are still many direct transliteration words in Chinese, regardless of meaning. Such as 巧克力(chocolate), 披萨(pizza), 汉堡(hamburger), etc.

We like to use 油管 to say youtube in Chinese. The real word 油管 actually means "oil pipeline". Cus "You" has the same prononcation “油“ in Chinese. Pipe and Tube all have the 管 meaning.

Both elevator and escalator are called 电梯 in Chinese, which means electric ladder. But when you want to be specific, the elevator is called 直梯,which means direct(up and down) ladder and the escalator is called 扶梯, which means handrail ladder, it is short for 自动扶梯,automatic handrail ladder.

whenever including a new foreign word into chinese language system, chinese regards logic and social norms higher over pronounciation and literal meanings;and the overall cohesiveness to chinese culture is highly valued,in order to maintain the integrity of the language

Jane seems like she'd have fun in Italy. :P Kotoha sounds like she's having the time of her life in Korea. And Hyejin sounds like she's happy to be introducing her culture to the world.

The Japanese pronunciation for salad (SARADA) is pretty close to the Spanish word for salad which is "ensalada".
