"Kicks" was written by husband and wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who wrote the song to try to motivate Gerry Goffin (Carole King's husband and songwriting partner - "Up On the Roof', "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow") to get off the drugs that were affecting his career and his marriage. Mann and Weil offered the song to Eric Burton and the Animals, who refused; they then offered the song to the Raiders, who took it to the Top Ten in the US and No. 1 in Canada.....thank you for coming to my TED talk....

I think it is absolutely insane that Paul Revere and the Raiders are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are one of the greatest group that ever performed. They not only have great musical talent, they also have the greatest personalities. I could listen to them all day. I have listened to them since they started in the 60’s.

Hey kids this is what your grandparents were doing when they were your age. I was 10 in 1966 and this was my first ever album, it was the best era.

This song puts being addicted to drugs or alcohol being not the way to happiness. I know first hand what it takes to find true happiness when you get cleen and sober. By the grace of God I've been sober for 40 years one day at a time ❤

These were our Beatles. The kids of the mid 60s in America saw these guys on TV all the time. One of the coolest bands ever.

The greatest line in rock history. You see no matter what you do you can never run away from you. Brilliant. This song is as good as anything the stones did.

Many people don't get that this is actually the first anti-drug song not only recorded, but getting air time and a place on the top 100

This was one of the first anti-drug Rock and Roll songs I ever heard. It was simply an incredible song and a great performance.
