Thanks for the reaction Michael. Means a lot to hear your thoughts and to know that the song struck you like it did me. I’ll also mirror a lot of the other comments here and say that you should listen to the album that this is off of, A Black Mile to the Surface, from cover to cover. It is a sonic journey you won’t regret. Much love.

Here's hoping you find out it's a concept album and the entire thing is a story. This song is the narrative of the man who's raising his brother's baby girl. His brother took his life out of depression and alcoholism, passed on to them by their father. He's talking about how much the little girl has changed his life and helped him get out of the cycle his family was in. The whole album is about the downfall of his brother though and its the single most influential piece of art in my life.

I discovered Manchester Orchestra shortly before they released The Million Masks of God and they quickly became my favorite band of all time. I saw them live this year and they closed the show with The Silence. Needless to say, it was a transformative experience. Do yourself a favor and listen to their entire discography in order and each album top to bottom. Their song to song transitions are flawless..

lead singer andy hull is a genius. all manchester albums are incredible with interesting concepts like double album cope/hope or the touching sailor's story in the trilogy 'right away great captain.' he's done amazing film soundtracks, even one for the daniels who recently blew up with 'everything everywhere.' def a musician to have on your radar

Thank you. This brought me to tears. Manchester Orchestra has been a band my soul has been tied with for 15 years now. This song is a phenomenal ending to the album Black Mile.
Their most recent album is just as good, if not better. The Million Masks of God. The closer to the album is called The Internet and it really compliments this song. But Angel of Death is golden and deserves a reaction.

I love that this was requested! Nothing super complicated just a great track played to perfection. Ethereal build to the epic payoff with actual lyrics. Perfect track. EDIT: Your breakdown of the drummer is spot on. The airy feel for the first half is HARD to pull off and perfect for the atmospheric feel

Michael - this was a real treat to see. My son-in-law is the bassist for MO, Andy Prince. I shared your reaction with him and he was blown away! These guys are awesome husbands, dads, sons and friends in addition to being great musicians. I’m a new fan for life!
