Michael - this was a real treat to see. My son-in-law is the bassist for MO, Andy Prince. I shared your reaction with him and he was blown away! These guys are awesome husbands, dads, sons and friends in addition to being great musicians. I’m a new fan for life!

"He's preaching. He's preaching he's preaching he's preaching. There's so much hope in here, and so much misery. It's the battle of dark vs light, and it's reflected in piece of this song." That is the perfect description of Manchester Orchestra's entire discography.

Thanks for the reaction Michael. Means a lot to hear your thoughts and to know that the song struck you like it did me. I’ll also mirror a lot of the other comments here and say that you should listen to the album that this is off of, A Black Mile to the Surface, from cover to cover. It is a sonic journey you won’t regret. Much love.

Here's hoping you find out it's a concept album and the entire thing is a story. This song is the narrative of the man who's raising his brother's baby girl. His brother took his life out of depression and alcoholism, passed on to them by their father. He's talking about how much the little girl has changed his life and helped him get out of the cycle his family was in. The whole album is about the downfall of his brother though and its the single most influential piece of art in my life.

"I Know How to Speak" is an outsanding tune by them as well. It'd be cool to see you do the acoustic version of that one.

I discovered Manchester Orchestra shortly before they released The Million Masks of God and they quickly became my favorite band of all time. I saw them live this year and they closed the show with The Silence. Needless to say, it was a transformative experience. Do yourself a favor and listen to their entire discography in order and each album top to bottom. Their song to song transitions are flawless..

I have bored my friends to tears pleading with them to listen to MO, and in particular the Black Mile To The Surface album….and you’ve said everything I’ve wanted to say to them. A wonderful, wonderful band.

lead singer andy hull is a genius. all manchester albums are incredible with interesting concepts like double album cope/hope or the touching sailor's story in the trilogy 'right away great captain.' he's done amazing film soundtracks, even one for the daniels who recently blew up with 'everything everywhere.' def a musician to have on your radar

It starts as a prayer for him and his daughter, then it’s God’s response back and forth. Andy discussed this in one of their documentaries.

Manchester is one of the most impressive bands I’ve ever listened to. Seeing them live is something else.

One of the best ending songs on an album ever. I would also recommend Colly Strings from their album I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child. Their dynamic on that song is somewhat similar but goosebumps all the way with incredible lyrics. Love your channel!

Thank you. This brought me to tears. Manchester Orchestra has been a band my soul has been tied with for 15 years now. This song is a phenomenal ending to the album Black Mile. Their most recent album is just as good, if not better. The Million Masks of God. The closer to the album is called The Internet and it really compliments this song. But Angel of Death is golden and deserves a reaction.

I came upon this this band and song in particular to this song (The Silence) about 2 months ago. I honestly listened to it a good 4-5 times in a row. There’s just so much to it. Thanks for the breakdown. ‘I know how to speak’ is another fave.

Like a virgin losing a child is a great album as well as mean everything to nothing!! Manchester Orchestra is amazing, I first saw them live at a Brand New concert back in idk maybe 2007-09ish, they blew me away!! Great pick dude!!

This is phenomenal but doesn’t scratch the surface of their Hot Topic session. That version of Pride is phenomenal. The tone is pristine.

I love that this was requested! Nothing super complicated just a great track played to perfection. Ethereal build to the epic payoff with actual lyrics. Perfect track. EDIT: Your breakdown of the drummer is spot on. The airy feel for the first half is HARD to pull off and perfect for the atmospheric feel
