It is possible to be mincing words by not being direct in the advice not to move to Texas. Not wanting to offend Texans and the fans of the state, you may tone down your words by addressing the dark sides of living in Texas. But we want to be unequivocal. We are producing this video to let you see 10 reasons not to move to Texas. Of course, in all cases, the final decision to move or not to move still lies with you. 1. Everything Is Bigger Jokes apart, everything is bigger in Texas. Anywhere you are in the state, you will hear the phrase a million times: Everything's bigger in Texas. But is it? Well, in the thoughts of Texans, everything, either real or imagined, is big. These could be things you don’t want big. And if you don’t want to have them so big, you have a reason not to move to Texas. For instance, physical things that Texas has are big boots, hair, hats, ranches, sky, land, wide open space, and buildings. Psychologically, Texans have big personalities and egos. Statistics also have it that they have big bodies. If we are making positives out of this, we would say everything in Texas, including varieties of cuisine, is big. But isn’t that the cause of obesity? 2. Aggressive Drivers Driving in Texas is aggressive. We will discuss some of the reasons for this later in this video. Even a calm and decent person will become an aggressive driver when he starts to drive in Texas. The spate of road rage is frightening in many parts of the state, not just in Houston which is common in the news. Almost every morning, we hear reports about someone being shot over minor traffic incidents. The number of drivers aggressively running red lights and violating other codes is just alarming. It’s either that people don’t pay attention when they’re behind the wheel or they feel entitled to all rights of way, especially in the past 5 to 10 years. To be fair, you just have to put yourself in their shoes to understand that they’re not bad. 3. Guns For many people, the proliferation of guns is one of the reasons not move to Texas. Most people in Texas will tell you that owning a gun is natural. In Texas, taking guns out of peoples’ hands kind of be like asking them not to drink sweet tea. There is no limit to the number of guns a person can own as long as he is not prohibited from handling them. There are more gun owners in Texas than in other states. Texans reportedly own about 51 million firearms. That’s more than the number of firearms owned by the 300 million people in the 15 EU nations. Texans possess some 20 percent of all the guns in America. 4. Humidity I don’t want us to get into argument about this. But you’re very free to state in the comment section what you feel about this point as a reason not to move to Texas. Whatever your bias, Texas is a big state with a wide variety of climates and topography. Depending on where you intend to live when you get to the state, you must be prepared to cope with humidity. The state enjoys a number of weather systems and these impact the various regions differently. Houston, for instance, is very hot and humid. Even with AC, summers there are hot and humid such that the AC rarely copes. Extreme weather events such as cyclones, impact the state’s regions prone to them and eventually increase their levels of humidity.
