One day a long time ago, I saw a theory about the video of Shades Of Cool, the theory said "The old man who appear in the video of "shades of cool" is the guy who appear in the videos of blue jeans and "born to die" already aged, and the lana who appears between the colors and pictures kinda psychedelic is the lana on heaven and the lana who appears close to the man is the spirit of her haunting the life of that old men, making him regret of kill her

Set your boundaries and MEAN them! You’re so right about that! Abso-f*ing-lutely!
Now, on to the video…The guy in this video is a model/DJ named Bradley Soileau. As you already know, he’s also in the “BTD” video. In 2014, he also starred in the video for the song “West Coast.” (Great song, btw!) He was cast as her love interest in all these videos because he reminded her of her 1st true romantic love. Somehow, “Video Games” also ties into a trilogy about this 1st love, along with the songs “BTD” & “Blue Jeans”. “Video Games” is the song that put her on the radar. Another cool fact: Although the concepts for both song videos came from Lana, this video, as well as the “BTD” video were directed by Yoann Lemoine, who also directed Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” video annnddd TayTay’s video for “Back to December”.
Lyrics are very much her focus as a musician, much like Taylor. For example, in the first lyrics you mentioned: “You’re so fresh to death/And sick as can-cancer.” Let’s take the word “fresh.” Our minds tend to automatically go to “clean” or “pure.” She’s using the slang phrase, “Fresh to death” in the song as meaning someone who is very stylish, or who may have qualities that are so complex it makes that person indescribable. The catch is he’s ACTUALLY fresh “to death.” Which, speaks for itself. He drowns her…
Also, “…And sick as can-cancer.” She’s going back to a slang word here, so you’re totally right! It’s not his Sign, and he’s not physically ill. In American slang, the word “sick” means “cool” and “impressive.” To her, he’s the best of the best! Yet, again, the play on words is he’s truly sick. However, I think I pointed this out in “BTD,” he’s not the only one who’s sick in this relationship. She is too in these songs/videos. I’m not gonna go through a list of why, because I’m not going to diagnose her and hear flack about it; but, Mere, you know as a therapist the sorts of issues she has going on from these songs and videos.
I would REALLY LOVE if you would do reactions to two more songs on BTD album. It’s my fav. album of Lana’s, hands down!
“This Is What Makes Us Girls” & “Carmen”. Lana says the whole BTD album is extremely autobiographical, but that these are her favorite songs because they are the songs she relates to the absolute MOST. “This Is What Makes Us Girls” is her reminiscing about a small group of girlfriends she had as a teen before her Mom sent her away. It’s about all their shenanigans. All true, according to her. “Carmen,”…Whew…It’s deep!!! It’s about teenage drinking, drug use, & prostitution. It would be a cool time to react to these because the last couple have been from the BTD album too. Plus, these are just absolute MUST HAVE listens and reactions! Love you BIG! ❤🦋✨

when you talked about her looking at him and not the other way around it made me think of "Music to watch boys to"! You should react to that one even though it's not so deep, but it has a video. These videos make me fall in love with your intelligence while interpreting everything and with her artistry and power

That last scene reminds me of her song "Million Dollar Man" when she sings "if you're going crazy just grab me and take me, I'd follow you down down down, anywhere..."
This is the second part of the trilogy that started with Born to Die. The next part is "Shades of Cool" when she's already dead and he's old and she haunts him through memories and visions.

Mere, I am on the last chapter of your book and I really want to say thank you. I really felt seen and understood in a situation that has really paralyzed my thoughts and, feelings. Also so refreshing to laugh along at the stupid and crazy situations we find ourselves in when loving an addict and feel my feels. Excited to finish it and fill out the pages!

I’m loving watching your reactions because people who are not fans of Lana usually say that she doesn’t sing, that she only murmurs and whines and all the songs are sad… And it’s not just about that… and you talk about the thoughts that the songs awaken in us, in a sincere and gentle way even in the criticisms.
