The Expanse season 5 ending explained. Deep dive into what the end of the season means for the characters and the rest of the series. Please subscribe! - bit.ly/PetePeppers

The season finale of season 5 of the Expanse wrapped up the show’s penultimate season. Amazon Prime announced that the show was renewed for season 6, but it will be the final one on the streaming giant. The fifth season was one of it’s strongest with the Roci crew spread out, and Marco Inaros’ terror attack causing chaos in Sol system.

The ending of season 5 sees the crew of the Rocinante back together, and exposes who Marco’s secret Martian collaborators were. In the final episode the crew lose a member when their long time pilot Alex Kamal (Cas Anvar) dies. He was rescuing Naomi Nagata (Dominique Tipper) with Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams), and suffered a stroke from a high-G maneuver.

Amos Burton (Wes Chatham) and Clarissa Mao (Nadine Nicole) have escaped Earth, and he convinces Holden to let her ship with them. She tried to kill him so it shows how much he trusts Amos.

Camina Drummer (Cara Gee) defied her Free Navy orders to destroy the Roci in episode 10. Marco Inaros’ (Keon Alexander) crewmember Karal was aboard the Tynan with Drummer, and she was killed by one of her crew named Michio. This saw their husband Serge spaced in retaliation, and that split the Drummer faction.

In the season 5 finale Marco and his fleet had a decisive victory in the battle for the Sol Ring Gate. With a coordinated attack that involved Sauveterre’s breakaway Martian fleet, and control of Medina station the Free Navy was able to dominate the Outer Planets. Sauveterre and the other Martian ships transited the Laconia Ring, and the protomolecule had already been delivered to Laconia. The Barkeith disappeared when it tried to transit the ring.

On Luna, in Season 5 episode 10, Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo) is Secretary General again, and she’s declared martial law for Earth. She tries to keep morale high at a party, but the attack on the Sol Ring interrupts. She watches with James Holden (Steven Strait) and Bobbie as the breakaway Martian fleet leaves the system. Holden tells her that Marco probably paid for the Free Navy Ships with the protomolecule sample.

I put out a season 6 questions video to follow up on some of what's discussed here. https://youtu.be/NUMg8NThH9M Season 5 changes from the book https://youtu.be/A6nmP8CgK14 Season 5 End Credits scene explained https://youtu.be/5hL6_VkJqXo Let me know where you think things are heading in the expanse, and how the season 5 finale influenced your thinking.

Amos' role has grown and grown throughout the series. He's easily the most fascinating character now. He's gone from being a follower to a real leader, that potential was well hidden early on.

"hey boss, remember when you threatened to kill me when I was with the martians?" "yes" "was that for real?" "yeah, but a lot has changed" "so, no hard feelings for that?" "of course not" "I liked to talk with you, thanks... COME HERE PEACHES, is al right" And I died of laughter

"I have a file with 900 pages of analysis and contingency plans for war with Mars, including fourteen different scenarios about what to do if they develop an unexpected new technology. My file for what to do if an advanced alien species comes calling is three pages long, and it begins with "Step 1: Find God." "

The funny thing is, that Detective Miller hinted the possibility to "throw rocks" at the inners to disstract them from the real plan back in the first book ^^

The scene of Naomi floating around the cetzymoka doing her hand signals was more believable than "gravity".

It was the most spectacular episode of all, the initial battle had me transfixed. The best sci-fi series I've ever watched, period. I'll start reading the book while waiting for the sixth season. Also, this channel is my first stop after each episode. Nice work!

From what i heard from others is that the protomolecule builders were either a level 2 or a level 3 civilization on the Kardashev scale and they were wiped out by a type 4 civilization.

First, we get an unfinished joke about the three human communities, then we do get the punchline several episodes later, only to conclude them all on a bar at last. Loved it.

The Barkeith just got Etch-A-Sketched out of existence or something.

I honestly had no clue that Drummer's crew was written as a polyamorous family. I just thought they were chummy belters.

I’ve just binged the entire season 1-5 over 10 days and my goodness it was WONDERFUL. A superb realisation of the future and characterisation on a par with the Wire ie there’s no black and white here it’s more many many shades of grey. Marco is more of a traditional baddie but still enjoyed the tense climax in this season.

Not happy with how they handled the death of Alex. It seemed to be, well, Alex died, oh well, so how was Earth?

I did not understand that Drummer's crew was a polyamorous family. My wife and I both did not get that just by watching the show. That adds a lot more weight to their crewmate/hubby getting spaced. I appreciate the explanation.

Pete, I just want to say how much I enjoy these explanations. You do a great job and are an excellent communicator. You greatly enhance the understanding and depth of the series. Thanks for your efforts.

I have to say that your analysis paralysis of The Expanse has helped my wife and I completely comprehend everything. There are so many things that we missed in the series, and watching your videos helped us get how incredibly complicated yet wonderful this series is.

As a non-book reader viewer there was A LOT of information to try to process in the back side of Episode 10. A bit too much I would say, but videos such as this help a bunch. Thanks

I, for one, will miss Alex and nobody should forget that without his tireless efforts, this show would have died when sysfy cancelled it. He was the main driving force to keep it going. Not ignoring what he did, but give credit when credit is due and scorn when it is due.
