I see a lot of people who, when speccing for purple tree, will take shields like Deathless, transformer, or Super Soldier for pet builds. For demonstration purposes, I did a run of Maliwan Takedown using War Loader with a Radiation old god and Spiderant Centurion with a messy breakup. I chose Centurion because it has the next worse AI after Loaders and unnoticeable passive, so it was the closest pet to a loader without the ability to through grenades and with less damage.
Hopefully comparing these run will show why a shield is way more important than which pet you use.

This build takes no capstones because its sole purpose is to deal as much pet damage as possible. Modifiers and build shown at 13:38 Spec www.lootlemon.com/class/fl4k#bega_230500100000_500β¦ Gear Faepuncher with generate terror on melee anoint Guardian Angel (didn't end up using it) Plaguebearer with Airborne damage anoint EMP5 for movement speed Corrosive Messy Breakup with Attack command 200% bonus fire damage anoint Radtiation Mitosis Hunter Seeker with On Grenade throw global damage increase to buff pet damage Red Fang COM to force enemies to the spiderant, breaking the shield and creating a dozen of Messy Breakup drones Atom Balm deathless because I didn't have a Victory Rush for this build
