REMASTERED IN HD! UP TO 4K!!
The official music video for Where The Streets Have No Name by U2.

An afternoon rooftop show above the Republic liquor store at 7th and Main was shut down by police as a result of the huge crowds that descended on downtown Los Angeles to see the band perform the opening track from The Joshua Tree album in March 1987 for this video by Meiert Avis.

Lyrics:

I wanna run, I want to hide
I wanna tear down the walls
That hold me inside.
I wanna reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name.

I wanna feel sunlight on my face.
I see the dust-cloud
Disappear without a trace.
I wanna take shelter
From the poison rain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name.

We're still building and burning down love
Burning down love.
And when I go there
I go there with you
(It's all I can do).

The city's a flood, and our love turns to rust.
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust.
I'll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name.

We're still building and burning down love
Burning down love.
And when I go there
I go there with you
(It's all I can do).

I will never forget this day! I was 15 and I was with my mother. Never been a big u2 fan but believe me if you were there, they had a great presence. I miss those innocent days.Just about everyone was enjoying themselves seemed like there wasn't a care in the world. This was 1987 downtown la. This is what the world needs now.god bless

I rarely went in to downtown Los Angeles, but happened to have a job interview that day at the Central Library about a mile away. .. Best mile I ever ran to get to see this in person.

I remember hearing Dusty Street giving the announcement on K-ROQ. I was on my way to work at Del Amo Fashion Mall. I made a quick stop to pick up a few lady friends of mine and we barely made it in time before it began. The music was so loud and clear you felt it in your chest. The sounds, the vibrations and emotions. It was the most exhilarating and electric moment of my life. Something you never forget. What a time to be alive and enjoy life as it was back then.

When I was in Afghanistan in 2005 I played this song each time I went out to clear the roads for IEDs. The roads were all dirt with no names and these lyrics made more sense to me than you can understand. Thanks U2

Truly is one of the greatest songs ever written. The intro is the sunrise to the greatest day of your life. And the outro is the sunset.

For those of you wondering if this really went down like this - it DID. It was all over the news, and MTV (back when they actually played music videos) aired it as well. This became the official video - and an iconic moment in the history of music.

Life in the 1980s was marked by a sense of simplicity and connection as there were no cell phones to distract from genuine human interactions. People spent their time engaging in face-to-face conversations, and the music of bands like U2 provided the perfect soundtrack to this era, captivating hearts and minds with its phenomenal melodies and lyrics, creating a lasting cultural impact.

Bono you beautiful Irish gentlemen. God Bless you for helping people who struggle. I saw you in 1987 in LA you addressed the homeless. My grandparents are straight from Ireland. Worked with Ireland in a previous job. Such genuine souls!

It would be great if U2 performed this again at the same location while they are still alive. The world needs more of this and not violence and hatred.
