As a big fan of spy x family, I'm glad the assassin doesn't have to kill too many people
In the show many people are excited about the assassin's secret assassin role but the goal of the show imo is for the false identities that are peaceful to become their real identities as they transition away from war times into times of peace

There's one clarification that I would like to make which is that at 3:10 you say that if there are no pairs listed you go off of who has the fewest x's and this actually isn't true. First it goes by who has the rarest card (who has a single card with the fewest number of x's) and then if there's a tie it's which pair has the fewest x's.
As someone who also made this mistake when I first played the game this actually makes a huge difference with how you play the game because if there are no pairs by the end of the round (which there usually aren't) then whoever is holding the spy wins. This makes the last few turns super fun but also super stressful because as the deck winds down there's a greater and greater chance of someone hiding the spy. Also because the round ends when the deck runs out you have to keep count of the cards and calculate what extra turn abilities are still out there to calculate your chances of getting another turn after your current one.
I think the main mistake that this game makes is how it advertises winning the game because all of the pair combos make you think that you're trying to find the best pair when in reality it's more about trying to get the spy and keep him without being discovered. From time to time pairs do happen but the vast majority of the time the winner is the person who can steal the spy out from under everyone else's nose at the eleventh hour. When you start playing with that mindset things make a lot more sense and you start to have way more fun with it.
Also there is no greater joy in this game than discarding the spy face down early in the game and then watching everyone else panic trying to find it while you sit back holding an assassin. If they steal your assassin they die and if they let you keep it you win because you have the next rarest card, win-win either way.

Disclaimer, helped work on the game (as a play tester, not designer or anything), but I really like some of the differences to Love Letter, e.g. Spy vs Princess because once you draw Princess (including opening hand) you never make another meaningful decision in that game. I def think there are pros and cons to both games and I genuinely enjoy both, but I really like the increased player agency in Spy vs Love Letter! I canāt fault anyone for liking one over the other but I personally enjoy the added agency

You should try something from Unstable Games. My favorite is Unstable Unicorns.
You have a deck and you want to get 7 Unicorns in your stable, but there are magic, upgrade, downgrade, and other cards you can play to use different unicorns. The rules say the game ends when the deck is finished or someone gets to 7, but we usually just reshuffle the discard pile until someone gets to 7

Dang there's only one Lloyd in the game and the winning hand is the Forgers, that's so cute!
