CRISPR technique speeds development of cancer treatments

Cancer will kill about 630,000 in the U.S. in 2020. But hopes are rising for cell therapies that can boost the natural cancer-fighting potential of the immune system in an adaptable way that simpler and more conventional small-molecule drugs cannot match.

A UCSF team led by immunologist Alex Marson, MD, PhD, along with Theo Roth, a student in the UCSF Medical Scientist Training Program, developed a breakthrough technique called non-viral genome targeting in which they used pulses of electricity (called electroporation) to quickly and efficiently program T cells using CRISPR gene-editing.

Now, in a study published April 16, 2020 in Cell, the team has used this technique to power a high-throughput screening platform to evaluate the potency of many different potential cell therapies simultaneously β€” comparable to the empirical approach already widely used in industry to quickly screen batches of small-molecule drug candidates.

My daughter has the triple negative evasive breast cancer stage 3 & she is only 24 years of age. She doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, she's a fantastic mother to all five of her children. Yes five ! All planned. She is still happily married to her high school sweetheart & had just qualified to become a doula (private midwife) now they are telling us, even thought she has lost all of her beautiful hair through chemotherapy, with this genetic cancer & it's stages there is no option left on the table no more. She has to have a double mastectomy just as soon as her chemotherapy treatment is finished. Which is approxamatly another 16 weeks. She has endured all that this cancer can throw at her since she noticed a small lump in May 2020 (she had just finished breast feeding her youngest. Please tell me if there's even the slightest chance that these new trials could be looking into this particular cancer & even if at present you are not able to test out these new treatments etc due to health and safety regulations. I am willing to fully give up my time and participate as a free volunteer to be your human guinea pig. Please please consider my request, everyday is heartbreaking and I'm at your mercy. God bless
