I'm a Greek-American who just came across your channel, and while I do know how to speak Greek, I enjoy watching your interviews with Greek locals -- it helps me understand the more conversational aspects of the language. My parents were both born and raised in small villages in Lakonia, and I went to Greek school at our local church from the ages of 7 to 13 ... but when I talk, I probably sound like I'm from the χωριό from the 1950s 😂
Anyway, I've been taking care of my elderly father, and he is able to watch Greek TV stations on his satellite dish. I've caught a few news reports on Alpha News about the heat wave currently in Athens, and I had a question about a word that people repeatedly use: χαμός. I've seen several different meanings for it, which are all negative (doom, chaos, loss) but the people who are using that word on the news (the folks who are being interviewed at ice cream stores, at the beach, etc) don't seem to be using it in that way. Also, because of its similarity to the word Χαμόγελο, which means to smile, I'm even further confused! Can you please shed some light on this word, and why it would be used when discussing the heat wave and people flocking to the beaches and ice cream shops?
Σασ ευχαριστώ πολύ!

I am ethnic Russian 🇷🇺, my grand-grand father was ethnic Greek 🇬🇷 Pantelei. I am very proud to be a descendant of this amazing nation. I hope your channel will help me in learning the language. I believe that the roots, language (at least partially), culture, traditions need to be known, remembered, loved and appreciated.
Thank you for the useful content. It is so important for us. 🤍💙

I learned more Greek in 11 minutes than I've learned in the past weeks when I've tried to study from other sources. You have a new subscriber. Ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ!
