Great film ā¦.. the use of the background smoke of different colours at different times every hour and the smoke from the arrival of trains many times a day was telling subliminal and scary . It conveyed the activity without showing one holocaust victim was very powerful . It gets you thinking deep .
The wifeās mother leaving suddenly in the night was very powerful ā¦ and telling ā¦. She knew what was going on ā¦ she put two to two togetherā¦.. she packed and fled !
The terrible genocide activity was conveyed above the fence line using the chimney and the sounds of random shooting was frightening and revealing.
Sound / audio was amazing allowing oneself to feel the horror without seeing it .
Memorable film for me !

He was an interesting choice for Hoess... Hoess also had a baby face, and so does Christian, but it's interesting how the casting director decided to REALLY play up that part of his features. This movie really humanizes the parents. Doesn't do much to keep the older children from coming off as right tyrants though.
