Finally someone got it right. If you watch older videos of Norum playing, he is alternate picking. As you said, it makes the timing correct and sweeping it just doesn't "sound" right. Bravo!!

This solo is my nemesis; I thought I had it, then looked at this video again to make sure I was doing it correctly and noticed that I was always down-picking on the B at 12 and then up-picking the E at ten over and over.... but you are down-picking the first time and up-pick the second time at the B at 12, then down picking the E at ten. It's such a small difference, but it seems important...thanks for making this very clear; I just missed it the first time...the first is outside picking, and the second is inside picking.
