i remember a long time ago watching a docu series where this dude would go all around the world and talk to various gangs. pretty much every time the dude asked ''why did you join a gang?'' the answer was ''to survive poverty'' and / or ''protection from cops''. at the time i was going through my conservative phase and it totally changed my perspective.

I’ve experienced a lot when I lived in poverty, but I grew up in a small town in Indiana with no crime.
It amazes me when I see gang activity and how prevalent it is in urban areas, it reminds me of how little I know about struggle in the states. Joining a gang is a survival tactic, and one I’ve never had to consider.
I couldn’t imagine growing up in poverty with gang violence around me. What would I do? What would that stress do to me as a child? How would I focus on school or sports or whatever else if I was worried about what would happen to me if I walked down the wrong street at the wrong time.
It’s just wild, and these problems could be alleviated if the local governments just provided for their people. But no.
I mean shit, it’s like the military; what other option do I have but to join?

A long time ago, I went to a Halloween party dressed as a really cute, fashionable pickachu with a Yellow dress and long yellow curls. It was probably the cutest Halloween outfit I've ever had. My best friend was a realistic zombie.
It was a block party, including 5 houses. We had a really good time. I eventually met some Latin kings in a house where we were playing card games.
Some guy got pissed off, accused someone of cheating and pulled a knife. He was disarmed and carried out by the Latin kings in a reasonably gental manner. I don't know every Latin king, but I respect the gang for that.

You are misinforming your audience, a little bit about gangs gang culture as we know today originally formed in the 1950s as a form of protection from other neighborhoods and also minorities using this as a way to group together and protect each other that pretty much changed later on and as drugs became introduced, gang violence increased gangs, are not form out of pure necessity anymore they are taking in somebody who has probably no family dynamic and is looking for one or this person has had a history with their family being in the gang I would know because do I have family members and gang? I also have dated people who have been in gang. Gangs are harmful to young men and women because they realize that they give themselves up for people who don’t really care about them when they get locked up

These young men and women in chat sound real suburban. They don't know that life. Easy to tell people to say no to the life when you grew up in a safe environment with plenty of opportunity, resources and access.
