I've had my XSE Prime for 5 weeks now. I simply LOVE this vehicle, and get more excited each time I drive it and learn more about its features and benefits. Its been hot here in SC, so I've been running the AC which nets me 39 mi EV. We just cooled off a bit this week, and I'm now getting 52 mi on EV with no AC. I am impressed!

Great review! Although the "superchargers" comment made me chuckle. Actual superchargers (Tesla trademark) are 22 times faster (not a typo) than the maximum the RAV4 Prime can charge at and the RAV4 can't use them anyway. You are referring to the regular Level 2 charge cord to charge in 2 1/2 hours. In EV land, it is considered an overnight charger because the batteries are so much larger than a PHEV. And with a "regular" 120v household outlet (L1 charging) that you would already have in your garage using the provided charge cord, it takes 12 hours to charge the RAV4 Prime.

Thanks for the in depth easy to understand review. I am looking at the RAV 4 vs. Tesla Model Y and your attention to detail really helps.

Picked up a Rav4 Prime XSE Premium Sept 2021. Waited about 7 months for one! Just about to hit the 3K mi. mark, no major complaints so far and filled up only three times so far. The $7500 Fed incentive along with state (NJ) credit made it a no brainer. Local electric company even provided a $1500 rebate for installation of home ChargePoint charger. Agree it can handle a bit better but using it local grocery getting driving kid to school, not much speeding there! Best feature we enjoy is the 360 camera which makes parking easier and cooling seats as the temp is slowly getting warmer. Thanks for the review.

Excellent review, thanks! Regarding the mirror camera, that sort of thing can indeed be helpful, but remember that you have to be able to quickly focus your eyes on the mirror itself . When you look in an actual mirror, your eyes focus at infinity which is what your eyes and/or corrective lenses are focused at. For old geezers like me, it’s a bit harder to focus on an image presented on the mirror surface itself, about 2-3ft away. Bifocals don’t help much because the mirror is up high, and the reading part of bifocals are down low!

Great review, Easy to watch, informative. Too bad Toyota can't ship plenty of them to US. I think in Europe RAV 4 comes with folding side mirrors. At this price point they should include them to the US vehicles also. I wish the screen on the infotainment system would have a bit higher resolution, the images are not as crispy as on some similarly priced vehicles and if you have too many songs and Videos on your Flash drive the screen lags and even sometimes reboots randomly. After several over the air updates it is happening very seldom. The vehicle is a bit noisy on rough roads but if the pavement is smooth the cabin becomes quiet. At speeds over 70 MPH the wind noise is becoming apparent. Plug in Hybrids and Hybrids are quieter than regular gasoline only RAV4's. Also I wish there would be memory for side view mirrors. My 2013 Ford Fusion Plugin Hybrid had side view mirrors with memory for each driver. I guess Toyota is reluctant to go to the Lexus territory. Also not all the buttons are illuminated and at night it is difficult to locate for example the button to unlock all the doors when someone wants to get in to the vehicle. It is impossible to quickly lock all the doors if there is an emergency at night unless you turn on the cabin lights and locate that button. Over all Toyota built a great SUV perhaps the best in the segment in value, there is no competition out there that can offer the fuel economy, refined driving, lots of simple to use technology and reliability in one package plus great looks. It is a keeper!

Just bought 2021 prime XSE hybrid and we love it. The dealer had a 10K mark-up putting in the upper $50's range. It took much haggling to get it down 8k. Now is not a good time to buy. Bear in mind, the XSE I test drove had two driver settings and the electric passenger seat options. My XSE does not, so be careful to check all the options. Also, we didn't care about having just one sunroof. Other than price, we are extremely happy, many safety feature, delivering great mileage for having all that speed, with many features we needed and still upscale enough for me and my husband.

I would have appreciated an explanation of how MPGe is calculated and estimated cost of ownership. Will we really save money over time ?

Excellent review ! I own a 2011 Subaru Outback Limited and they apparently think the passenger doesn’t need to be comfortable either. Like you my wife is leggy and having minimal adjustments is ridiculous especially on long drives.

Nice video and car! Super presentation! We have now also this car. One thing i hate is the crazy seatbelt reminder for the back seat. How can we disable this. Because my aunt dont want to fasten in the back seat
