Jean Rondeau & Thomas Dunford record "Les Baricades Mïstérieuses" by François Couperin

"We don’t know how to play alone. This is the paradox of the game of music: a cross between extremely precise rules for how to play – how to read this cryptic language we spend our life deciphering, like hieroglyphs – and the magic to which it leads us – its at once organic and dreamlike dimension." Discover Barricades: w.lnk.to/brcsLY

Among the composers present in the program is François Couperin, whose "Les Baricades Mïstérieuses" opens the album. Written for harpsichord in 1717, the piece is composed in rondeau form, emblematic of the selections that follow by composers Robert De Visée, Michel Lambert, Marin Marais, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Jean-Henry D’Anglebert, Antoine Forqueray, and Jean-Philippe Rameau.

Also featuring mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre, baritone Marc Mauillon, and Myriam Rignol on viola da gamba.

Sometimes I feel that my life is chaptered by specific pieces of music. Sometimes I come across pieces like this and feel 'new'. And when I have bad days, something that keeps me going is that there must be pieces like this out there for me to find. And I will feel new again.

C'est sans conteste la plus belle interprétation des Barricades Mystérieuses qu'il m'a été donné d'entendre. Mais quelle merveilleuse idée cette association du luth au clavecin.

Jean Philippe Rameau, and François Couperin, absolutely vital to music, the 2 most important French composers of the 18th century!!! An outstanding piece from Couperin, the chord structure alone is emotional, let alone the counterpoint!!!!! Absolutely charming!!!!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

Merci Jean Rondeau, merci Thomas Dunford. Et bravo !

The listening that is going on between the two is incredible. The push and pull of tempo and yet still placing the notes together. Bravo!
