Alanis, thank you for this gift. Ablaze was the last thing my mother and I shared together prior to her death in NOV 2020. Ours was a strained relationship for many years and my mother saw the Tonight Show performance, prompting her to mention it in one of our rare conversations (she had grown very ill in her final years and 1000 miles separated us, plus COVID). I had just purchased the brilliant "Such Pretty Forks..." album and our mutual fondness for the poignant lyrics that capture the unique bond between mother and child drew us closer than we had been for too long. In the conversations, prompted by the poetry of this song, she shared for the first time in too many years that she loved me, and I shared the same with her. A few months later I visited in person and we shared what turned out to be her final meal together; she died a few days later. Thank you Alanis for the gift of this song, a treasure which was the catalyst to reunite mother and child-the perfect tribute to a perfect so. God bless you and your beautiful family!

Uh, welp, to Rolling Stone and other commentators, I think she's edgy AF. Now more than ever, actually. Who else has the guts to show the mess and complication of being a parent while also trying to stay a person? Who else is willing to put aside their ego and show that level of vulnerability and not matching some manufactured "ideal" of what a (female) performer is supposed to be? This is absolutely next level. Alanis is and always has been incredibly raw, truthful, authentic, and present, and that's what we show up for. ❤

“My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze.”
Thank you so much for that reminder. I didn’t realize how much I needed it until I heard it. I have two young kids at home, and often I get confused thinking that “My mission is to keep this house tidy”, or “My mission is to get dinner ready on time”, or “My mission is to make sure you finish your homework”. So, thanks for reminding me to refocus my microscope. ;)

As a massive fan of Alanis since Jagged came out when I was 12 years old, and all due respect to her husband and family, to have her as a wife would just be awesome. Her husband must daily feel so blessed to be with someone so amazing and creative. He absolutely must be her biggest fan. You ough you ough you ough oughta know. What a worldwide legend.

Rolling Stone said she's not edgy anymore, those who walk that edge implode. It's called growth, and expansion on ones journey in life. So screw you Rolling Stone, you didn't grow~ beautiful song.
