I can’t wait to show this recipe to my dad! He actually used to be a bartender back in his 20s. The story is pretty interesting: his original job at that same place was as a dishwasher, but one night the bartender was sick and couldn’t come into work, so he had to step in. He learned all the basic drinks on the fly and did so well that he and the original guy decided to split their shifts 😁 And he still knows all the recipes till this day

Can confirm this was very refreshing - I made this while the heatwave rolled through California and it was 80F/27C inside and 110F/43C outside with only a box fan to aid me. 🫠

That fancy spoon you were using to stir is actually designed that way for a specific reason. You are supposed to pour the carbonated drink of choice *ON TO the STEM*, and it will gently swirl down, and stay fizzy.
And then when stirring, slide the spoon all the way against the side, beside the ice. And then do a twirl motion, holding it with the tips of your fingers at the end. The goal is to swirl the whole concoction around. That way the ice is also cooling the glass it is in.
