The '8' symbol is meant to symbolize eternal chaos and inevitable destiny. They they're all gonna die at some point, but they still have to go through multiple stages of torment to get to the upper levels of the game. Well, it's not really a cliche, oversaturated game show with colorful lights and the emcee who always laughs, but y'all get my point.
