This is my rendition of a German folk song about the harvest, often sung as a children's song. The melody is presumed to date back to the 17th century. My German mother taught me and my sister this song when we were little and we would sing it as 'kanon' (a round) together which is one of my favourite childhood memories. I feel nervous and honoured to cover it.

Lyrics and English translation:

Hejo, spann den Wagen an,
Denn der Wind treibt Regen übers Land
Hol die goldnen Garben,
Hol die goldnen Garben.

Heigh ho! Hitch up the cart,
As the wind drives rain across the land
Fetch the golden sheaves,
Fetch the golden sheaves

I learned this song as a child and basically do not remember a time I didn’t know it! It’s so amazing to hear the spin you put on that song! You make it sound so mystical, like the foreboding rainstorm in the very song. I’ve never heard it sung like that, where I live we usually belt it out like farmers yelling at each other from across the field, it has more of a work song vibe! It’s honestly a go to song when we’re walking somewhere with the choir (or just my musically inclined friends). It’s really lovely to hear another interpretation of the song, especially one I know so well, and I of course immediately fell in love with your version. Keep doing what you’re doing, I think I found my favourite genre of music with you <333

I think most german kids learn this during childhood. We did also the singing in canon. But I have to say the german pronounciation is great, really great. It sounds so clear and nice.

This melody is so nostalgic ! my mom and i used to sing it in canon all the time when i was a kid (and still sometimes do) Didn't know there were different versions in other languages ! That's really cool

You and AURORA give the same positive and ancestral vibe. It would be so cool for you and her to collaborate on a song. Both of your voices are ethereal and seems like you stand for the same things. She also loves witchy vibes! She loves to collaborate with smaller artists. You should try reaching out! Her fans would love you! edit: missed a few words

Such a weird thing to come across - at the age of 11 (40-odd years ago), I sang this in the school choir. We won several competitions with it as part of our repertoire. The English lyrics, as I remember were "Hey-ho, Nobody at home, meat nor drink nor money have I none. Yet I will be merry." That's all I remember except that Susan Lunn was the prettiest girl in the choir.

"Hey ho, hitch up the cart!" (a common children's song in the German language...I wonder how Kiki will use it here!)

I discovered your music today. Every child in my home learns this song and even thoigh it is mostly regarded as some annoying old song we lear in school or so, I always enjoyed it. You've portrayed it amazingly. Loved it, please keep hoing

The melody reminds me a lot of the English-language round song “Rose Red”. “Rose, Rose, Rose Red, Will I ever see thee wed? I will, marry, at thy will, sir, At thy will. Ding, dong, ding, dong, Wedding bells on an April morn, Carve thy name on a moss-covered stone, On a moss-covered stone.”
