8:42 "someone is going to suffer the consequences and its not going to be the people in charge" This perfectly sums up the world today. This is a problem in every part of society from video game developers to government. No one is held accountable for the failure of the few who make all the decisions

I dont think dev companies have to stick to making one type of game for their audiences forever, I mean if thats the case we would of never gotten the souls games. Nobody was asking fromsoft to make those types of games yet they did. The issue isnt shifting genres for companies, its shifting genres to try and capitalize on marketing trends instead of trying to make a game they're passionate about.

I feel like "trend chasing" is a really key point to this. Most games that end up being super successful do so because they don't chase trends. They either do the thing the company has perfected over the years regardless of if it follows a trend, or they create something new that sets the trends instead

I used to play time heavy games such as MMO's. As i grew older i had less and less time to participate and thus i wasn't getting the same experience i once was.
I don't want to (nor do i have time to) reserve time in my calendar to unlock items or finish a seasonal track. especially not for multiple games. I play to unwind, not to do a list of menial tasks.

I feel so bad for the developers involved. In many of these flopping games, you still see plenty of individual parts that are absolutely stunning. From characters that look and act lifelike, beautiful environments, great gunplay, clever puzzles,... There's so much good in most of them, but it's forced into an awful game. The worst part is that because they are GAaS, they could just shut down and all that work just disappears, nobody will be able to discover those hidden gems.

Finally someone actually thinking critically about this and speaking for the consumers. A studio known for its single player games is all of a sudden branching out into live service games? And the main characters are the suicide squad, an IP about a team of C listers that somehow managed to do better than the justice league in the box office because justice league was just that bad of a movie?
You can draw the conclusion that shareholders and investors wanted in on the anit-consumer, infinite money glitch that is live service games and wanted to market it using a successful IP in the mainstream to attract as many people as possible. I can say with almost 100% certainty that no developers were passionate about making a live service game about nobodies and this was a management decision that got dumped onto a team.
They think we're ignorant children who will happily slop down whatever garbage products they shit out.
