Of fear and democracy
Iām making my religion proud
Keep it to yourself
Keep it in the family
Keep your loud voice down
Is the room getting smaller
Or is it just your daughter?
Laying the blueprint out
Raise no Sunshine over the counter again
The bankās running low
I donāt want your looks
I donāt want your candy
I want your medicine
Iāve been waiting for something good to really happen
Itās the way itās always been
Or the way itās never been
Iām a coward at heart with some good excuses
Sending my surrogate
Stick you with a pen
Cut you with some paper
Feeling braver drinking gin
I know just what to say after weāre together
Itās the way Iāve always been
Showing little to no skin
Good girl
Got some bad in her
Cussing like a drunk
Driving with her knees
Quarter to quarter
Dealing with the torture
Of living high
To not feel low
Spending more to not feel broke
Iām the middle child
questions, feel no doubt
Good girl
Got some bad in her
Green ink heart
On her lower back
Knife in the toaster
Didnāt know it could kill her
Living high
To not feel low
Saying you know what you donāt
Whose love and whose dime
Is paying for it this time?
A little tall for your grade
Overworked and underpaid
Bad girl
Got some good in her
Cussing like a drunk
Driving with her knees
Quarter to quarter
Dealing with the torture
Of living high to not feel low
Bad girl
Got some good in her
Got some guilt too
Youāll see if youāre looking
Losing grip
And skipping dinners
Donāt you remember feeling low?
When it got hard to say no
Living high to not feel
So low
Sunshine over the counter again
Sunshine over the counter again

This is a song I want to share with my friends who are musicians, engineers, and producers and nerd-out on breaking down why it is so good. Then I want to share it with people I know who don't play instruments or make music, but who should be considered musicians because of their insane appreciation for music. Then I want to drive around for hours and listen to it on repeat. By myself. And it isn't even the 'style of music I would normally listen to'.
