For some reason I loved this movie when it first aired. I had never watched dynasty, I was a child when it was on. I loved this, as I’ve always been interested in behind the scenes flicks. I know this is overly camp but it’s enjoyable. Thanks for posting because this was impossible to find for years,

I enjoyed this despite some inaccuracies. If you didn’t grow up on Dynasty this TV movie would give you the broad brush strokes:
- It was created to rival Dallas.
- It was silly, camp and highly materialistic.
- They burnt through storylines so quickly that the plots became more and more outrageous.
- The actors playing secondary characters could be swapped-out at any time. The producers did not give a toss.
- “Amanda” is representative of all the daft actor switches that occurred, rather than being an accurate portrayal of Catherine Oxenburg. (In actual Dynasty, it was Fallon who had a car crash whereas Amanda was pushed into a swimming pool as Oxenburg and came back out as Karen Cellini, whilst fighting with Sammy-Jo.)
- The Moldavian Wedding Massacre was a gobsmacking cliffhanger but it threw the show off its rails for good.
I think the three things this misses are:
- The writing team who turned Dynasty from a turkey into a hit wasn’t the Shapiro’s. It was the Pollock’s: credit where credit is due.
- Joan Collins as Alexis was a tour de force. She blazed across the show like a very attractive, scene-stealing comet ☄ . The actress in this re-telling has none of that flash or charisma, she is just whiny. The uninitiated would not understand from this why Alexis became such a global icon at the time.
- It wasn’t just Dynasty that tanked by the end of the 1980s. Within a series, all of the super soaps were CANX!
Still, at least they had some decent replica Carrington Mansion stairs, which the actual Re-Union botched!

This is hilarious. I actually worked on this as an extra. I was made one of the gay bar patrons. I spotted myself in blue over to the extreme right, partially blocked by the tv at around 53:11. All of the different sets showing the public reactions to different scenes, were side by side in the one studio in Sydney, just decked out in various decor.

Loved watching Dynasty. We’d go the bars every week to watch. Miss that era in television. Love Joan, Linda and John. Shout out to Joan who to this day looks amazing
