In this video, we will go over what I think are the 8 most crucial naval battles in Byzantine history all from the entire lifespan of the Byzantine Empire- 4th-15th centuries. For these naval battles to qualify for this video, they have to be from within the time period of the existence of the Byzantine Empire from the 4th-15th centuries and must be only fought at the sea, although some sieges will be mentioned here as long as they were mostly naval ones. However, all battles covered in this video are all fought between the Byzantines and foreign enemies, so no civil war battles are covered in this video too. Now, naval battles in Byzantine history happen to be very underrated compared to land battles and it is for this reason why I decided to create a video on Byzantine naval battles. The Byzantines were sure enough a maritime power in the Mediterranean Sea and due to this they surely had a lot of naval battles throughout their history. In terms of ranking, I will be ranking the battles here from 8 to 1 with 1 being the naval battle I think is the most important. The ranking system in this video now however is based on my own opinions, and thus if anyone has thoughts or suggestions about how I ranked the naval battles here, please say so in the comments.
