I was taught to drive like everyone else on the road is trying to kill me. I used to think that was a bit extreme, but over the years I found it to be really good advice, because many of them actually are. They really don't care if their actions kill people.

My father told me when I was learning to drive: Car beats motorcycle, truck beats car, semi beats truck, train beats all. In other words, don't mess with bigger vehicles and be on the lookout for smaller ones! People that brake check don't have many braincells active in my opinion, especially if they go after bigger vehicles.

I drive a tractor trailer for a living and I can tell you that I would NEVER cross a set of raised tracks or try to outrun a train. It's just FAR too dangerous. There's absolutely no possible way that first driver didn't hear that train horn that was right next to him...
