Jake Gyllenhaal is one of my favourite actors working today and from a very young age he’s been delivering some amazing memorable and relatable performances. I wouldn’t say he is an underrated actor, but in my opinion his work doesn’t quite get the recognition it deserves. So in this video we’re gonna be discussing his filmography, from Donnie Darko and Bubble Boy to Nightcrawler and Prisoners. Let's find out what makes Jake Gyllenhaal such a great performer.

I still don't understand how they didn't give him an Oscar for his role in prisoners, in general that movie is a work of art 🌟

He deserved at least nominations for Prisoners, Nightcrawler and Southpaw. Which he did back to back to back mind you. He was on an absolute tear in the 2010’s and the academy just refused to acknowledge him

He’s one of the few actors that I will watch something just because he’s in it

The fact that Donnie Darko and Bubble Boy came out the same year proves how insane Jake’s range really is

Gyllenhaal and Ryan Gosling are some of the greatest actors of our generation and one thing that people who do think they are great forget is that they are also great comededians and comedy actors despite them not playing any comedic roles

Jake Gyllenhaal is an actor whose movies are consistently incredible. Whenever someone asks for movie recommendations, I always suggest they just search up his filmography and choose any title. It doesn't matter which one they pick because all of his movies are top-tier.

His performance in Nightcrawler is for me personally one of the best acting in this century. Pure charisma and talent. One of the best actors today 100% 🐐

He once said that he respected Joaquin Phoenix and Natalie Portman,... because he respected actors who are not afraid to take risks, meet failure and transform themself into different character, what he wants obviously not for the money but the process of learning, getting to his characters and developing them into another layers of personalities and characteristics.

I can’t understand why people never use Nocturnal Animals as one of his accolades, to me that’s one of the greatest acting performances ever

He and Hugh Jackman KILLED it in Prisoners. Like HOW neither won an Oscar for that movie is INSANE to me.

Something about his look in Prisoners just catches my attention. The eye ticks, the tatts, and the best haircut I've ever seen anyone rock. The whole movie is just gold

He deserved an Oscar for his role in Nightcrawler! The man literally dropped 60 lbs and Christian-Baled himself for that role! The method was there.

Jake and Christian Bale are by far my favourite actors working today. They both just feel so incredibly genuine with their performances. All their characters feel like completely different people. People often name Leonardo DiCaprio as the best actor alive and while I think he’s a great actor, all his characters have that same thing going on. To me Leo is great at line delivering, similar to Denzel Washington. While Jake changes his expressions and entire body language to move and appear completely different. I’d absolutely love to see Jake and Christian go up against each other in a film. My mind automatically goes to something like Seven or Heat where one’s a cop who’s so distracted at stopping the other who’s tormenting him. Tom Hardy would fit in with this film too.

Jake Gyllenhaal is the most underrated actor of our time. Not that he isn't rated highly. But it's not enough. I'll be really sad whenever he retires.

He truly represents "acting range" masterfully

I sincerely admired him in Source Code. You see the same scene with the same actor for 80 minutes straight and yet it's not boring at all. I doubt any other actor could make it just as captivating

Jake's comfortability, along with his upbringing with successful, but not famous industry parents, really shows in his public appearances. Confident, but not arrogant, funny, but not trying to get a laugh. He's comfortable as a person, you can tell. A rare trait for a good actor. Not to mention the man hasn't turned in a performance I haven't enjoyed, yet. He's been in bad movies, but he's always clearly been a professional, passionate actor. He puts everything into his roles, from mindless fun like "Bubble Boy", to meatier, grittier, harder roles like "Prisoners", "End of Watch", and "Nightcrawler". He really is proof that a great actor, that just does his job, works on improving his craft, and has a true, burning passion for his work can elevate an entire production.
