The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene (Complete Summary)

In The 48 Laws of Power, Robert Greene asserts that whether you like it or not, you’re part of a never-ending game of power. You’re either striving for and wielding power, or you’re a pawn being played by someone more powerful than you. You choose your role.
This book is for those who prefer to be players rather than pawns. To turn you from an amateur into a master player, Greene has codified 48 laws of power based on historical examples of people who’ve excelled or failed at wielding power, with glorious or bloody results (or both). Some key principles you’ll learn: use your enemies, keep others dependent on you, say as little as possible, take credit for others’ work, and don’t get your hands dirty. You can choose to apply or dismiss these rules - but you can’t escape them.

I always noticed that the bosses best friend at work is always someone quiet, who seems completely boring. Now I think they are the eyes and ears for the boss.

I understand and utilize power games at times. My goal is not to obtain power but to decouple myself from people who pursue power and to be left the fuck alone. I don’t want to pull strings, and I don’t want strings attached to me.

If you base your whole personality on just these rules then you’ll be like an empty vessel that’s achieved power. You have to mix these with the book of five ring, and know when to turn these on and off. That way you can still be a good person that has skills that you can use at any given moment

Law 7 and 26 - take credit for other's work. I see this all the time, the loud manager/executive demands work faster, take unnecessary risk, yells a lot, reduces staff resources to save money then takes credit for getting the major task done. If the decisions of the manager/executive causes unacceptable consequences, the workers are blamed

I love the brilliant perspective on content like this! This is so creative I am ashamed that despite having the book I have never thought of any of your summaries...finally a commentary that is actually a commentary not just an audiobook😂

"Seeking power is like drinking sea water... The more you drink, the thirstier you get". This is at least good to know as a reference for wisdom.

1. Never outshine the master. 2. Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies. 3. Conceal your intentions. 4. Always say less than necessary. 5. So much depends on reputation - guard it with your life. 6. Court attention at all costs. 7. Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit. 8. Make other people come to you - use bait if necessary. 9. Win through your actions, never through argument. 10. Infection: avoid the unhappy and unlucky. 11. Learn to keep people dependent on you. 12. Use selective honesty and generosity to disarm your victim. 13. When asking for help, appeal to self-interest, never to their mercy or gratitude. 14. Pose as a friend, work as a spy. 15. Crush your enemy totally. 16. Use absence to increase respect and honour. 17. Keep others in suspended terror: Cultivate an air of unpredictability. 18. Do not build fortresses to protect yourself - isolation is dangerous. 19. Know who you’re dealing with - do not offend the wrong person. 20. Do not commit to anyone. 21. This explains why sociopaths and psychopaths tend to become "successful". The path to power (at least this path) would naturally draw manipulators. Very interesting info, thank you for this channel!

Wow. These points are amazing. They are illustrations of a complete Narcissist. It’s perfect material for an antagonist character I’m trying to write.

Good information on how to spot swindlers and grifters. Basically, just the pains in the butt . This heads up just reinforces the concept of trusting your gut instincts.

Hardly laws. Just the obvious things you can do if you don't mind being a psychopathic monster. Most of us aren't monsters by default, but most of us are controlled by them.
