The Breakfast Club - Deleted Scenes (Part 1)

This is the first half of deleted scenes included with the Criterion Bluray. I split it in half due to copyright reasons.

To the people claiming that these scenes aren't deleted, let me explain. There are definitely deleted scenes here, but there are also alternative takes of scenes that would later be included. Also, later airings of the film on television would include previously deleted agents because of contractual and program blocking reasons. These scenes come directly from the Criterion Bluray, listed as deleted. They are sourced from worn workprint tapes from MCA, and likely have been trimmed down from likely full cuts of the film. I have not touched this at all from the source on the bluray.

To all people who have mentioned the later releases being censored, this is completely false. No home release of The Breakfast Club had scenes removed. Some broadcasts of the film have, however, had scenes removed either due to public television standards or, again, the programming schedule.

If you remember a deleted scene being in the movie, you very likely saw it on television.

We seriously need to see the original director's cut of this film. I don't care how long it takes or if its not high quality but I will surely pay money to see it!!!

$11.74 an hour wage in 1985 was incredible....I remember making $3.65 an hour and thinking I was rich!...

That first couple minutes of them just walking in the door really showed what great actors all these people were. In just a 15 second walk without words or interactions, each one did such an AMAZING job of telegraphing exactly what their personality would be through the whole move.

Class of '88 here. I was 15 when this movie came out. Lived through this era and can vouch that it is close to 100 percent accurate. Never seen these before. Outstanding, and I echo the sentiment that there should be an extended 40 anniversary release in 2025. If people will pay for three hour D.C. or marvel movies, they will go and see this.

Awww Allison finding that record is so heartwarming. She deserved it. I think that that all "when you grow up your heart dies" thing is a false belief she held because all the adults around her always tried to be so cold and emotionless. I love the idea that the record might have done something to convince her that there is a future for her where she can feel things. Where her heart doesn't die.

The janitor giving them real talk is a scene that needs to be added now. Good stuff. It's terrible that was cut out back then.

I was blown away by Carl's monologue. John Kapelos stole the scene completely and even Nelson had to acknowledge it.

The janitor ripping into everyone's future is cult classic gold

So this explains Bender's later remark about Clair's "poor, rich, drunk mother in the Caribbean" and why Allison had a Prince album in school.

I think it’s great how Bender listens to Carl without allowing himself to become upset by his insightful predictions.

It's like God gave Judd Nelson one movie to be the greatest actor ever in, and that was it!! He never hit a role like this again.

They should’ve kept the part with Bender, Claire, and Brian with the books!

Also, I really liked how much more depth the Brian and Claire scenes brought to their characters when they were talking about their relationships with their parents. We all know how Bender, Andy, and Allison's parental relationships were, but they didn't go into depth about Brian and Claire's, and I think that was a missed opportunity. Even the most popular girl in school and the smartest kid in the room didn't have idyllic relationships with their folks.
