I've always hated mirrored selfie photos. Always change settings when getting new phone. Prefer it mainly since t-shirts can be read without looking mirrored.

Regarding the first portion of this, I have an interesting anecdote about a case of this... I had a friend in high school that posed for a photo shoot for me for my photography class. I developed the film, made a contact sheet (anyone else remember such things? 😉), and printed up 8x10” prints of a few of my favorites. I then showed them to her. She didn’t like any of them. Somehow, I heard of this phenomenon at some point, and a week or two later, I picked one of the images and printed it backwards. She loved it! She’d dismissed the non-reversed image from the same negative, but loved this one. Now, is it just because time had elapsed, and she’d seen the non-reversed version before? I suppose that could play into it... but I think I remember showing her the non-reversed version again, and she still didn’t like it. So I think it’s more the mirroring aspect, specifically. :) Anyway, fun stuff to know about! Thanks for the video.

Nah, my selfies look terrible. I'll look in the mirror, and think "Wow I actually look pretty nice today!" then I'll go to take a picture and it comes out looking like a feral goblin snuck into my house and stole my phone

most people actually don't like how they look in selfies, main reason is the focal length of the lenses are small so your face will look off proportionally, like your nose will seem bigger than it actually is etc

Interesting hypothesis - although I tend to make minor adjustments to my face/expression when I’m taking a selfie. I can try when my friend is taking the pic, but ultimately the image is out of my control and I’m not a professional model. That’s my thought on this phenomenon anyways.

I actually think I look awful in selfies and most other photos. I can look at myself in a mirror and think I look ok, but taking a selfie makes me look fat and ugly.

My case is completely different I actually think I look good on the phone UNTIL I actually take the photo and look at the end result. But as long as I have not taken photo and just see myself in the camera app I think I look fine or even good or great! I really don't get it.

Using zoom for the past year with the mirroring turned off has actually made me very familiar with my face as others see it! Now, I think most photos taken of me look pretty normal.

I prefer my mirrored image (mostly because of the part in my hair), but I don't like what the close range of a selfie does to my nose and facial proportions.
