Part of what is so cool about AI in 40k is that they have this huge taboo around them, yet seem to pure expressions of the omnisiah. In certain Horus heresy short stories it mentions this AI called the Tiberia Meriad, or something along those lines. Whenever it interacted with chaos the tech marine following it witnessed a "purifying" affect that temporarily purged all chaos from the machine it interfaced with. Even the men of iron in the Gaunts Ghosts novles shrieked in machine horror at the sight of the corrupted men of iron being produced by the tainted STC. So though AI is susceptible to chaos, it needs to be introduced to the AI by a foreign body, otherwise the AI just annihilated anything chaotic

Okay, this is important: the reason that Men of Iron look similar to the new Squat stuff is simply because that aesthetic is what the aesthetic of the first human galactic empire during the Golden/Dark Age of Technology looked like—which actually was a question I had always wondered about. Like I wonder why the Phalanx doesn't have more of that same look, since it was supposed to be a DAoT-era vessel—but anyway yeah, this UR-025/Leagues of Votann aesthetic is literally just the Dark Age of Technology human aesthetic that they alone have retained whilst everyone else went Gothic-style.

I really like the sparsely littered lore about the Dark Age of Technology. It's a bit of a snare though, you have to resist the perpetual temptation to just reveal it all in one big lore dump. Otherwise, you can't do it justice. This is the stuff you really gotta deliver piecemeal so as to not ruin the whole allure of its mysterious presentation. But yeah, totally on board with getting some well written insight into the old golden age.
Your thought process seems on point about the Squats being a vector to hitting us with some Dark/Golden Age lore, as the Squats would logically possess some impressive records, or at least any records, concerning the events of their home near the galactic core. A window into the Dark Age of Technology or the Age of Strife lore in the upcoming codex for the Squats would appear likely, well at least a window from the Squat's semi-heretical perspective of how things transpired, of course.
Speaking of heresy, the Squat's intro vid had them hack a ship with what looked like a more advanced version of the scrapcode used by the Dark Mechanicum, yeah? It kind of makes sense then why the Imperium would refuse to acknowledge anything about their existence for this long. Everything about them just breathes non-compliance. Contemplating the virtual autonomy, independence, and perhaps even rampant technological innovation of the Squats is way too much for an ecclesiarch or inquisitor to handle mentally. Like the mere act of thinking about the Squats is enough to make their heads explode, perhaps literally, lol. The Squats don't have to be a joke themselves, but their effect on the wider imperium can be comical, and thats probably a good way to reflavor them.
So yeah, probably the best solution GW, or anyone really, could come up with for explaining the Squat's absence for so long. And build us a grade-separated junction for tossing us fish pellets of lore about the Age of Strife through a codex finally. Good stuff.
Edit: Didn't intend for this comment to be this long. Or for it to even be this much about the Squats. But thanks for the upload!

I absolutely LOVED your UR-025 story readings. Truly wonderful. Because of these stories, the Men of Iron are one of my favorite side factions in the entire lore. Thank you.
