My biggest challenge, living in a condo, is the charging. I can’t think of having an EV until I’ve my own place and a charging setup. Otherwise in winters it’ll be very difficult to go out and charge my car.

ICE cars mostly catch on fire in accidents. So do EVs. But unlike ICE cars, EVs can also catch on fire when they're just sitting there, often when charging. Maybe in your garage and EV fires are MUCH harder to put out. EVs are also being totaled from accidents that for an ICE car would be repairable because it's impossible to tell if the battery has suffered internal damage. That's why EV insurance is going through the roof.

Tires have higher emissions than ice exhaust. The weight of the EV causes this to increase and EV tires are replaced more often. It is not something that seems to get talked about when comparing environmental impact of different vehicles.

How environmentally friendly are the batteries when they catch fire and burn for days?

For me, my only concern is range. I drive quite a bit here in Florida. Plus, there isn’t enough charging stations in my area if I need a charge.

The range is BS especially if you live in a winter wonderland charging takes 30-40 minutes (does filling your car...??) If the battery has issues or is toast it costs 000's to replace and if EV;s are so good then why in Cali are owners being asked not to charge between 4-9 cuz it s killing the power grids of the nation.

Question: I spend half the year in Thailand, the other half in USA. Thinking an EV or Hybrid doesn't make a lot of sense for someone in my situation. Do you agree?

Don't forget 1/2 the new vehicle sales by 2030 being EVs is not the same as 1/2 the vehicles on the road being EVs - they will still make up only a small fraction of all cars by then, the average age of a car in the US is 12 years.

For there to be sufficient energy to charge all these future EVs people are going to have to reassess their fears of nuclear energy... it is the most reliable and clean energy source we have today.

Ive had a bolt before and it was fantastic. Sold it unfortunately. Now trying to figure out whether to get a Corolla or used model 3. Electric seems more simple. Thanks for the video

Which form of electric power generation causes the least environmental damage? Amusingly, the answer depends entirely on who's funding the study. Coal? The mining tears up the earth, and coal ash is very toxic. Wind turbines? They kill birds and the blades are currently not recycled. Natural gas, petroleum, photovoltaic, solar-thermal, hydro, etc. Each has significant downsides except for whichever form a given company is promoting and seeking shareholders to invest in.

Appreciate your work as always. I like your analogy to PCs in the 80s. I well remember being excited about my 8086 processor with 20 MB HD (!). -- and upgrading about annually thru 286, 386 finally stabiizing with pentium chips. I've been and remain quite interested in EVs and have been champing at the bit but I bide my time awaiting coming improvements in battery technology and, to a lesser degree, the charging infrastructure. I hope to/plan to keep my Honda Accord running until then.

Tell that EV fire to Richard Hammond who crashed his EV Rimac and two months later they were still putting the fire out. Fire crews need special equipment to reduce an EV fire because nothing they have will put it out totally at the scene of a crash and battery rupture.

The data shows that you should stay away from Kia & Hyundai if you don’t enjoy recalls.

On your first point, you used a study from Sweden showing there are less fires from electric cars than ICE vehicles. I would guess that there are less evs on the road than ICE vehicles and that should be factored into the figures. Also, it seems that when an ev catches on fire, it is often much worse than an ICE vehicle. Be well.

EVs are too expensive to purchase now.

Thanks for the review Shari. And no I’d never consider owning an EV.
