Imagine trying to explain something like a platypus to someone who's never seen one. It has the body of a mammal with the bill of a duck, and uh, lays eggs even though it's a mammal. Oh and they have poisonous spikes. Surely they'd think it's some sort of crazy made up creature.

Here in Austria there exists a joke about a "hillside chicken". A chicken with uneven legs that can only circle the hill and to catch it you have to stand below it and imitate its cry so when it turns around it starts to roll down the hill and you can catch it with a bag.

I cannot believe you forgot the coolest part of the kelpie myth, in that you can tell if a horse is a kelpie by looking at its hooves. Kelpies have backwards facing hooves, so even IF the horse looks like its facing away from water, it can immediately start galloping towards it anyways :D And that the mating of a kelpie and a regular horse results in offspring that is impossible to drown! Kelpie should be AT LEAST an A tier in my opinion.

i’m scottish and did a solo talk on the kelpie when i was about 8 years old, i enthusiastically told the famous story of the child cutting off their hand while their pals drowned and the teacher was so concerned

Around where I live, there are two "cryptids". One is of a catfish in our local lake who made it's home in an old car dumped in the water, and has gotten so big it can't escape, and lives by opening its mouth and waiting for things to come in. Another one isn't a living thing, but a ghost train. My town had a huge train fire, which permanently destroyed the line and resulted in the town's prosperity declining since the 50s. You can still hear train horns sometimes--this is due to the sound carrying from a nesrby town's track, depending on the wind. But it's still a strange vibe to suddenly hear a quiet train horn in a place with no train.

19:39 The fur-bearing trout sounds like something you'd make up to make fun of rookies, like the "left handed" hammer, collecting "Spark samples" or Blinker fluid.

I like the idea of the kelpie as a formless water spirit solely because it would be really funny for a modern take on it to just be an unattended car or bike suspiciously close to the water

The picture at 37:42 is actually a painting of a creature from old Norwegian folklore called "Nøkken". Its appearance is like a pile of twigs in the surface of a pond, but it can shapeshift to either a horse or beautiful woman/man. It lures people to the edge and drags them under. It can also take people swimming in the water. The myth came from people swimming among waterlilies and tangling their feet in their long stems. The waterlilie's plant family is actually named after the myth. (Nøkkerosefamilien = Nøkken-rose-family) The artist that made the painting of the horse also made a painting of the "real" thing. (copy-paste the name from the top to see it)

I can't believe he actually talked about the Grootslang. It's such a niche cryptid from my country but I'm happy it was included

You can tell this series is a passion project. What a huge undertaking, a total gamble with how much time and effort actually had to go into the research, filming, editing. Thankfully, it’s hugely popular.
