THE CAT IS OUT THE BAG
Count me out is one of the songs I listen to when I find myself entering my
complex ptsd,anxiety and depression.
Itās such a beautiful song and such a raw expression of vulnerability that it took me years to be able to give myself permission to share my own vulnerability and realize everything Iāve been keeping inside my brain and heart were too much for me to face and sort out alone and find a therapist.
Thereās so many moments in this song that I relate to,ā look at myself in the mirror/amityville-I aināt seen nothing scarier/I fought like a pit bull terrier/blood I shed could fill up aquariums.ā
When heās talking about wearing masks it can be so widely interpreted..wearing masks to hide your true face and feelings from letting everyone see, almost like the āWojakāmeme..but also how during Covid masks became a worldwide part of life, nearly EVERYONE was wearing masks and you couldnāt see anyoneās faces anymore.
āMask on the babies, mask on an Op/wear masks in the neighborhood stores you shop/but a mask wonāt hide who you are inside /look around, the realityās carved in lies.ā
Itās such a powerful song, one of my most listened to.
Thank you for this interpretation and breakdown of this masterpiece.

Auntie Diaries is my favourite song from the album. It really shows off Kendrickās lyricism and humanity as a person. Him saying he chose humanity over religion and basically saying with the line: āThe history had trickled down and made us ig'nantā That people are blinded by the past and need to get with the present.

I think you're misinterpreting the song Momma. It's a song about pride, humility, and finding purpose.
The first verse is about pride in mastering his craft and the appreciation he feels that it gave him an opportunity to explore home. Home is Momma (AKA Africa=The Mother Land). The second verse takes that pride to another level and Kendrick expresses that he knows everything about the world and what it has to offer. By the end of that verse, he returns home, becomes humbled when he realizes that his knowledge was limited due to only being familiar with his immediate surroundings. Once he goes back home, he realizes that there is so much more to the world.
The third verse, I don't think is as introspective as you make it seem. Kendrick actually went to Africa and identified with the people there. In the verse, he talks about how he had been brainwashed by American society and its ideas of what it means to be successful. Despite all of his accomplishments, he still felt empty inside because he had lost touch with what was really important in life. His journey to Africa enlightened him and he felt it necessary to be an advocate for his people still in America.

It is so right that you connected dots between this album and TPAB. Because DAMN. Felt like venting frustrations leading to different outcomes depending on what way you listen to it. TPAB and WWS are both introspective thoughts his impact on the world and the impact of the world on him. So thereās more parallels. Thatās my take at least
