WAIT A SECOND. 😳 Two colors?! 🤩 Camille finally gets to sing again! 😄
Third listen:
Hold up--is Camille the FIRST singer, for once? At this point, I just assume a ViCam song is from Victoria's point of view, especially since the art is almost always about her. Another way of looking at it, though, is that we're seeing Victoria through Camille's eyes.
And which color belongs to which character? At first, red made sense for the seductive vampire, but her eyes glow yellow...
Just checked their one other duet. At first, it seemed inconclusive because the colors looked like light blue for Victoria and dark purple for Camille, but then Camille sang, "Now it's your move, dirty human killer! Ah!" And that part was red! I'm not sure if Camille has ever been associated with a specific color, but with Victoria as purple and yellow, I'll take that as a hint for who is singing.
I think the colors are what tipped me off, but the strongest evidence for Camille singing first is in the lyrics.
TEXT ANALYSIS TIME! 😆
Who would be more heartbroken if the other weren't serious? The one who keeps loving and losing.
"I'm not that innocent."
Why would either of them have the impression of Victoria as innocent?
"You're dreaming away."
Victoria's songs seem to all be seductive predator or pining romantic.
"Wishing that heroes, they truly exist."
Vampire slayers are heroes for humans, certainly. But also, Victoria wishes for someone who could join her in or save her from the curse of immortality.
"You cry, watching the days."
She's immortal and longs for someone from the past.
"I did it again, can you blame me?"
Not referring to playing with hearts, this time, but letting herself fall for someone despite all the times she's been hurt.
"Once bitten, twice shy doesn't quite apply."
Vampire pun, obviously. It doesn't apply because she would've been the one doing the literal biting, but also because, even having been figuratively bitten, Victoria isnt more shy to her detriment.
Victoria is the one who could taste something in the air.
"Then our eyes meet, and the world comes crashing down."
Despite her defenses and power, simple eye contact throws Victoria off balance and makes her feel alive again.
So, aside from my typical assumption about ViCam songs being from Victoria's point of view, what else made me initially think this was, too?
Victoria has denied her feelings in Vices and Virtues-- "But I don't need you." --and cursed her attraction in How Lovely, so it wouldn't be out of character (I think) for Victoria to lie to both of them about not having genuine feelings.
Also, playing with hearts, treating their relationship as a game--we see both of these in May I Have This Dance and Vices and Virtues.
Because vampires often have hypnotic powers and/or supernatural allure, it would make sense for Victoria to cause Camille to lose her senses. But! Wouldn't that make it ironic for the human to mislead the vampire? The hero to break the heart of the villain? This would also add a significant layer of depth to a hitherto undeveloped character: that Camille has a history of breaking hearts.
I suppose that, as a cover, Oops... I Did It Again won't end up in the official ViCam playlist... but I so wish it would! It opens up such interesting possibilities for their character and relationship arcs!
Also, now I imagine that the illustration takes place a moment before Camille catches her wrists and Victoria's expression changes in concerned confusion. Like, Victoria was going to hold Camille's face before Camille stopped her and started singing. Sad and beautiful. 💔
Even if the song doesn't go in the playlist, I hope the story beat is canon. Don't get me wrong--I hope ViCam get together in the end, but this is such an interesting plot development!

A good song is a good story and I always loved the idea of two enemies falling in love, especially when they are opposites, one growing a heart while the other falling to reality.
(And the vampire aesthetic just makes me think of a story between a vampire and a priestess, both rising to higher positions as they live longer lives because the other won't let anyone or anything else kill them)
