OMG as a Kurdish I surprised so much to see that😊😊 Thank you so much for video. This story is not ordinary for us. Video is great but I just wanna ad something; 1- In the Sirnex, Jezire women still wearing black dresses to show how sad they are because of death of Mem and Zin. 2- Ahmed Xani buried in my city, Agiri (near Ararat mountain). Every year hundreds Kurds coming from another cities just for him. 3- "Beko", which is an abbreviation of the name Bekir, is still used in the sense of mischief among the Kurds. My mother always called me by this name when I was misbehaving :) Also, this name is not often given to Kurdish children. 4- Ahmed Xani was a kind of Kurdish nationalist. That’s why even he was a muslim, he use so much symbols from the Zoroastrian religion. Zaroastrian is our old religion. 5- only thing which I don’t love in this story Bekir is an Atheist. Because I am an Atheist to. But I can understand 300 years ago to be an atheist was probably super abnormal thing. And thanks again for this great video. the video was very informative and nice.

As a Kurd my grandma she told me about the whole story, Every night before I sleep. Mem û Zîn is such beautiful and sad story.

Thank you for bringing this story to us. Kurdish people have suffered for many centuries and have had a very difficult life. They were constantly made to migrate and disbursed due the fear of them claiming a piece of land as their own country. They are very good looking and strong but they are hated if they step out of their territory.

Thank you for your video. As a kurdish this story has been toled by my parents multiple times. But your through analysis gave me a great joy and made me read this epic with more intuition.

I am Persian but I had never heard this story before. And I didn’t know Kurdish had their own Shahnameh. Woooooo I thought for a minute that The two sisters are symbolic of the two dynasties Maads and Sassanid. For centuries these two sat side by side. But I’m not sure if that’s what it was meant hear.

In Punjab, Heer Ranjha by Waris Shah has a similar plot, instead of Beker, the main villain is Kaido, there is a side story of another couple as well, the heroine Heer has a best friend called Siti , they ( Heer and Ranjha) are from different villages, in the end they are allowed to marry but Kaido poisons Heer and Ranjha (hero) dies of grief, Kaido dies somehow too , either by guilt or by revenge by villagers , details vary. It's one of the most popular 'Qissa' or epic poem of Punjab, references of all sought, about the life and times of Punjab are in it. Written around the same time as Mem o Zin too. However, Waris Shah wrote it in his style ie like Shakespeare wrote previously known or published stories and improved upon them or gave them his signature writing genius. Before Waris Shah many Punjabi poets centuries before had written short poems or songs about Heer Ranjha, but Waris Shah's version is the longest and considered Canon.

Thank you. The Kurds are an underappreciated culture. (They're the ones who did most battles with ISIS.) Saladin was Kurdish.

The Shahnameh is a book that was written a thousand years ago. The Kurdish Shahnameh was written based on Ferdowsi's Shahnameh and is not an independent book. It is a translation of Ferdowsi's poems.

Very interesting never heard of a Kurdish novel but very familiar with their plight which the western world refuses to support.
